When should I take the ACT?

Hey guys, I’m a junior right now and I was just looking at colleges that I kinda want to go to for engineering and Auburn was one of them. I found out that they require an ACT which is a huge bummer. I’m taking the SAT in march and in May/June. I was also planning on taking the math and spanish sat II’s sometime but I guess the ACT kinda killed that idea. So basically, what I’m asking is when should I take the act so that I have enough time to prepare myself well (because the thought of taking one obviously didn’t even cross my mind until today) and so that I won’t be packed with studying for both my act and sat.
One more question, can I get kind of a discussion about what exactly is on it and how hard is it?? I heard somewhere that there’s some form of science in it possibly?
Oh, and also I need some good prep books. Thanks!

go to ACT online, they have good practice questions that will let you know what’s on it. It is a lot about speed. You can buy their official studyguide online or at a store if you’re rushed. take ACT in your senior year then, it is plenty of time to study and far from your SAT dates. You can use a form of score choice for ACT too, so you can take it twice. Colleges will probably look at your best score since that is what they do for SAT

Auburn doesn’t require the ACT. They take either. Directly from their web site:

Admission standards are based on the quality of your high school grades as well as your score on either the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Auburn University requires that all incoming freshmen provide test scores, including the writing portion, from either the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) . No preference is given for either test and the highest composite score will be used for admission purposes.
