Do you have the opportunity to take a PSAT test? This is traditionally taken before the SAT as it gives you a feel for what the SAT will be like. I would reccomend waiting until the spring of your junior year to take the SAT, unless the PSAT is not offered and you want to practice and gauge a score. Otherwise, if you take it too early, it can be sort of pointless because you may not have covered some of the content on the test just yet. Hope this helps!

I can’t take the PSAT, i live in France…
And i ask that because i’m afraid to get a low score and i’d like to know if i can take it again ?

Thx

Take the test only when you are ready. There is no particular best month to take the SAT. The SAT has a unique moderating curve for each test so that no matter which month you take the SAT, the results MUST be comparable to other SAT administrations.

When people take it usual?

People usually take the SAT 1 year or less before they actually go to college, in other words the end of their third year or the beginning of their fourth (last) year. Basically a few months before or 1 month before they have to send in the applications for college/university.

Some colleges will only accept Jr or Sr scores. Many Jrs take their 1st SAT in Mar of their Jr year however, they usually have taken the PSAT in 10th and/or 11th to give them an idea of where they stand.

Then they retake it in May or June of that year or if needed in the first semester of their Sr year before Dec so schools will have time to get the scores.

Balancing comes in if you are planning on taking SAT 2 tests since you cannot take an SAT1 and SAT 2 in the same sitting so you need to plan ahead which months you will do what. Plus, here in the US, AP exams are in May the same week at the May SAT date so if you are taking AP exams you don’t want to take the May SAT.

You need to find out internationally, which months the various tests are offered in France because it will not be the same as here. The SAT 2 tests are not offered on every SAT 1 date but the collegeboard will list which dates do.

Thank you !

But if they fail their SAT, how can they be sure they will got a triple800?

SAT scores are available here in the US 2-3 wks after you take the test so you still have time to find out your score and decide to register for the next one.
