When stuff you love gets discontinued

LOL, RobD - you and I were buying out Drugstore . com!

Costco is also pretty challenging. I decide I like something and the next time(s) I go there, the item is no longer stocked! S

Yes!!! Love their Kirkland Tomato Basil Bisque Soup, but they don’t have it in stores now because (I think) summer is upon us. :(

If it comes back next fall, I’m buying a flatbed’s worth to get me thru the warm months! It’s a quick lunch and tasty!

And, the Coach’s Oats…I love that! My Costco ran out and didn’t restock. :frowning:

I also LOVED the smell of the big bottle of Dial Nutriskin Body Wash…the White Peach and Shea Butter Fragrance, but it seems to be d/c also. Probably available in regular stores, but Sams had double packs of large bottles with pumps.

P.S. I still miss Team Flakes that I ate nearly everyday as a kid. :(

This may be TMI but … Favorite underwear…discontinued.

^^^My mom & I were at Costco on Friday partially to pick her up some of their broccoli cheese soup. None! They only had 3 soups: clam chowder, lobster bisque and…Tomato Basil! You know it’s not that far of a ride for you M2CK :)

Another vote for Vanilla toothpaste. I am also not fond of mint and every type of toothpaste seems to be flavored with mint.

Years ago, eldest dd loved gummi bear oatmeal and would eat three packages for breakfast. She was skinny so this was great. Discontinued- try explaining that to a hungry 3 year old. She has never really taken to breakfast since then.

When S1 was four or so, we bought him a great tent. The bottom of the tent was a fitted twin sheet that fit on the bed, so he could sleep under a tent in his bed. It was even decorated with dinosaurs. Eventually, the thing fell apart.

Fast forward to S2 at age four. I went back to Toys R Us, the original site of the purchase, with no luck. I wound up writing the manufacturer, only to be told they didn’t make it anymore. I wrote them back and told them they should, that it was one of my son’s favorite items when he was little. I never heard a word.

I’m thinking maybe it was a fire hazard, and that’s why they stopped making it.

Edited to add: OMG!! I just googled this. This is it, except for the decoration!! http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Play-Tents-Secret-Castle/dp/B00009IMAN

Perfume is helped by choosing an old brand that does not discontinue fragrances. I have been wearing Mitsouko for thirty plus years. I don’t know what I’d do if they discontinued it. I wear it every day. Guelain doesn’t seem to discontinue its fragrances.

The only bra style that worked for me…gone.

Maytag top load washing machines…gone. (Please don’t tell me they are still available, because they only have the Maytag name slapped on a Whirlpool machine.)

Bottom freezer refrigerators that don’t have those &*%$%$ french doors on the top! Gone!! My mother has had one for the last 37 years, but now if she needed to replace it, she would have to get those %$#^&& french doors!

My Maytag dishwasher that had racks for stemware, adjustable racks for large bowls, several other specially designed racks, AND an electronic readout that told me how many minutes were left in the cycle…gone. Oh, wait, not exactly gone, but if I want those features I now have to pay top of the line price, because my price range is now completely lined with stainless steel. Why do I want that? So my dishwasher doesn’t smell. I never had trouble with it smelling before! Don’t put my money in stainless steel…give me my beloved features back.

I chalk it up to marketing. The age group that spends the most money is, let’s face it, younger than most of us on this board. Products are designed to appeal to that group.

I loved Marzetti’s Chipotle Light Ranch Dressing. I used it on regular salads, potato salad, sandwiches, and anything else that needed a low-calorie kick. After it disappeared from my grocery store, I looked online for anther store where it might be sold. Finally, I wrote to the company and received a very nice but disappointing email saying that they had discontinued it. Now, I am experimenting with adding my own additions to fat-free ranch. Just not the same.

I agree with the vanilla mint toothpaste; I liked the lemon also.

For those of you who don’t like mint toothpastes: D2 exclusively used Tom’s Strawberry Banana toothpaste for about 10 years because she didn’t like the mint taste of everything else and Barbie bubble gum flavor was too sweet.

There are too many favorite items to list that have disappeared but on the same theme are restaurants that are our families favorites that go out of business or are no longer in our area. My kids will say lets go to … and then they learn it is gone and say how is that possible when it was always so busy. I think even though what ever it is may seem popular it is not mainstream. My tastes and to a degree my kids have a higher niche value but most of the population go for all the general run of the mill c**p.

Yes, Costco!

They had these whole grain muesli breakfast round thingys JUST long enough for me to fall in love with. No more. sigh

Guess that’s why I HAD to buy the chocolate covered almonds instead!

Trader Joe’s used to have Green Tea Muffin Mix. Gone now. And where the heck else could you find such a thing? I tried to make it from scratch one day, to appease the kids, and it was awful.

I also went to Piggly Wiggly once on vacation recently and my FIL dropped one of our bags in the driveway. Two jars broke: Guava jelly and Tart Strawberry and Pink Grapefruit jelly.

I go back 2 - 3 days later and can’t find any more. Discontinued in that small period of time! It was a repackaged store brand, made by Braswell’s. I managed to find Braswell’s guava jelly, but not the other one. I didn’t even get to taste it so maybe I shouldn’t count it as a favorite but I know I would have loved it. I’ll just blame my FIL.

"It started for me many years ago when Alcon stopped making the contact lens solution I used (I have rigid, gas permeable which are less common these days I guess).

Albuterol inhalers."

Kitty, these are both major for me, too. The lenses (rigid, gas permeable) now have this hard to use system that requires multiple solutions - one to clean, one to soak, etc. The cleaning solution burns terribly if you mix them up.

Over the counter Epinephrine inhalers were also d/c’d Jan1, which I recently discovered. They are great for those with occasional exercise asthma. I am carefully hoarding my last inhaler. The only way to get an inhaler now is with a prescription.

I’m glad you reminded us of this since I have my yearly physical next week and had forgotten I need to ask about this.

The non aerosol albuterol inhalers are practically worthless. I think I had to double or triple my number of puffs to get any effect at all. My discontinued product woes is a creamy miso dressing that was tangy and just delicious, made by SASS. No longer carried anywhere that I can find, and other miso dressings I have tried are disgusting.

Sharp used to make a microwave oven that doubled as a toaster oven. Seriously perfect and truly both complete appliances in one! It was fabulous for small NYC apartment kitchens. We cobbled it together from parts online when it started to fall apart. Now it’s all gone. I don’t have a microwave any more because I want that one again! I think Sharp discontinued it because it was cheap, terrific, and saved folks from buying two appliances. Evil… :)

My routine always included a cleaner that you rub the lenses with for 20 seconds then rinse and then put them in the soaking solution for the night. It is the Boston soaking solution that bothers my eyes. Over 35 years and I have never mixed them up, lol! I may forget other things, but I am diligent with that! The Walmart Equate brand is the same routine, but does not irritate my eyes at all. I just hope they keep making it!

That’s what S tells me and I find that really disturbing. I stocked up on as many as I could for him, but eventually they run out. Now he has to use the non aerosol.

I don’t think they have discontinued Swiss muesli, I swear I have seen it at the grocery store and I still used to buy it until I had to give up gluten.

Trader joes is particularly bad in this area.
Thai spicy peanuts
Wasabi chips
Still missed.

I also have exercise asthma. I upped my caffeine intake.
