Newtons First Law of Motion states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion in the same direction unless acted upon by an external force. Tell us about an external influence (a person, an event, etc.) that affected you and how it caused you to change direction. (500 700)

I wrote a true story about myself. I was initiating a program, being very goal oriented, but not very good to my teammates. So at the end of the story, the message is I realized leadership is not just about goals, it’s also about value.

When I finish it, I found it may be off-topic. Cause they may want to hear more about your career direction, not your leadership style?

To me, it doesn’t seem to explicitly direct you to talk about any one kind of direction change. I think a well written original essay about some influence that changed your direction in any way should work. But, my opinion is not really relevant to what the admissions people want necessarily.

Agreed – the topic you describe sounds perfectly within the scope of the prompt. They didn’t say “career direction,” and at your age it’s kind of unlikely that you’d have had a meaningful change in career direction. A change in perspective, values, or goals – any of these (and more) could be a change in direction. I think the prompt also implies a question about how your future behavior will be substantially different from your past behavior as a result of your pivotal experience.
