I parked in Garage B Sunday on one of the ramps going from 1st to 2nd floor.

Figured I’d move my car today for the game tomorrow… walked around every level of the garage for an hour, circling everything twice. Can 't find my car.

So if they tow your car, do they let you know? I don’t know why they would’ve towed mine, but it’s not there and that’s the only conclusion I can come to.

Did you have a D permit? Was is affixed to the car the way they said to do it?
I know someone who was towed for just not putting the sticker on his car properly (he just displayed it in the rearview window).

Anyhow, here are the reasons that they tow from the rules and reqs.:

(8) Tow Away – Vehicles are subject to being towed from campus at the owner’s expense
under the following circumstances:
(a) The vehicle is parked in a hazardous manner, blocking traffic, roadways, crosswalks,
sidewalks, handicapped ramps, or creating a hazard such as leaking gasoline.
(b) The vehicle is parked in a space reserved twenty-four (24) hours per day.
(c) When arrangements to release an immobilized vehicle have not been made within
forty-eight (48) hours of the original immobilization.
(d) When the vehicle is abandoned on campus for any reason whatsoever for more than
forty-eight (48) hours.
(e) When immobilization is not appropriate due to vehicular construction.
(f) When the vehicle owner has previously removed an immobilization device without
authorization.
I hope the car was not stolen :O

The permit was a D permit and in the right area (I live in Libra, any other garage would be too far away to bother parking in).

I’m not sure if d) applies to me. I haven’t moved my car since Sunday… so it’s been sitting there for five days. But it was in a parking spot in a garage, not sure if that counts as “abandoment.” If so, that is quite a stupid policy, I’m sure there’s a lot of people who have a car on campus but don’t use them regularly.

As for being stolen… well, I’m OCD about locking my doors. And I’ve gotta say that if I was going to steal a car, it would not be a 1994 Honda Civic with nothing fancy at all going for it.

I’m going to check again at about 5 when it clears out a little bit for tomorrow’s game. But if they have towed my car, how do I find out? Just go up to parking services and ask to see a list of cars they’ve towed?

I would call parking services and ask them. If you are positive that you parked your car there and it is really not in the garage, either it was towed or stolen. Parking services will give you the phone number of the towing company that they use so you can check it they have your car.

I searched the garage again and then went to parking services.

They said they DO NOT TOW in the garages unless there is a ridiculous amount of charges against the car.

They gave me the number for campus police.

With parking services, we checked the entire garage again. It was not found.

I then filed a police report and it’s now officially a stolen car.

If you’re a student or have a student at UCF, pleas pass this along:

"My car was stolen sometime between Sunday afternoon 8/24 and today, 8/29. It was parked in Parking Garage B on the UCF campus, right across from the gym.

It’s a 2 door red Honda Civic, license plate # W54 4KW.

If you see it around campus or in the area, please call the UCF Campus Police at (407) 823-5555 and tell them you’ve spotted a stolen car."

Yeah, I know… but apparently 8/10 UCF student cars stolen on or off campus are found ON campus.

I just can’t believe someone would steal a car that has no after-factory work. There are so many nicer cars in that garage without alarms. And mine’s a 5-speed, so there’s a narrow window of who could’ve stolen it.

My car was found completely stripped (engine, seats, etc) in Research Parkway. They don’t know yet if they can find out who did it.

My advice:

DO NOT PARK IN THE PARKING GARAGES. There are NO measures taken to keep your cars safe.

I’m going to speak to parking services to get my $80 back for my parking permit. I didn’t even get to park there for a week and they didn’t do their job.

We cant’ really do much right now because of the holiday weekend. We even called the towing company and the guy there is an idiot and didn’t know if they were going to be open tomorrow.

And of course I’m from out of town and the title of the car is in both my mother and I’s names, so both of us have to be there to sign it over to insurance.

I was going to say that if you found your car it would probably be stripped because they use them for parts but I did not want to upset you even more than you already were and that is why I said “I hope you get it back in good shape.” Again I am so sorry this happened to you.

Yeah, I honestly figured it would be stripped, I was just trying to be hopeful (and really hopeful that maybe it was towed accidentally or I was just stupid and forgot I parked elsewhere).

Cops are still processing evidence. If they find out who did it… oh man. I am going to sue their pants off for emotional distress. And then watch them rot in jail, because by the way they knew what they were doing, this was not their first time.

With that kind of theft all in the same place, I’m surprised that they didn’t have some sort of surveillance going on. It would seem to be a no-brainer?!
Did they say if any particular cars were being targeted, i.e. your honda, which I’ve heard is one of the most stolen, or is it pretty random?

I’m so sorry to hear about your misfortune! My D had her car broken into in the HPA parking lot earlier this summer. Automobile crimes seem to be really high on the UCF campus for some reason (maybe because it’s an open campus). She drives a '97 Honda (not a Civic or Accord), but I always stress to her the importance of making sure her doors are locked, etc. I’d prefer that she didn’t use the garages but she says that it’s often a necessity to park in one, particularly Garage B. Even so, she is proof that your car doesn’t even have to be in a garage to experience some sort of incident on the campus. I’m thinking they need more cameras in place around there.

Oh, and as a side note, you can access the UCF police blotter from their website. It gets to be a little alarming looking at what all takes place around there! They also report the crimes that occur in the affiliated housing areas (Pegasus Landing, Pegasus Pointe, etc.).
