in chemistry, when calculating the heat gained by H2O in a caliometer.

say you reacted some C4H10 in the bomb caliometer (like 5 grams of it), and there is 1000 grams of water that raised 4 degrees. when you do the heat gained by water
like Heat = mass * C * delta T.
do i do 1000 grams * 4.184 * 4
or 1005 grams * 4.184 * 4

so, like, when do i add in the mass of the reactant with the water? and when do i not?
i know if you put some Na into H2O, you have to add the mass of Na with the water, but with like, an iron nut or something, you dont. so how do we tell?

anyone confused about my question?
