When to appeal

After a long drawn out process my D has decided to attend Bates College. Her financial aid package there is not as good as some other comparable schools that she was accepted to.

I assumed that it would be best to file an appeal before sending in the acceptance. Is this true or at a very selective school like Bates does it really make a difference?

Is it best to start with a telephone call and followup with a letter?

How long does it typically take to hear back?

Any other suggestions ould be great. We have learned a ton here.

I would start with a call. Tell them you are new and see if they can explain the award. Bring up the question “I was worried I did sonething wrong since this award is lower than the other colleges” or something like it.

Thank you.

We got a response back after 10 days. We called and spoke directly with our Financial counselor so do that first. Definitely appeal before acceptance because that gives the college a reason to offer more.
