We live where first names predominate I guess. A time and/or regional difference.

My students call me by first name, older neighbors, friends of family…never introduce by title. Same with our dentists and doctors. I always told kids to call me firstname if they were okay with that. On a rare occasion I’ve had someone introduce themselves to me with a title and I thought “wow, how snotty” (I wouldn’t interpret it that way elsewhere, but here it would be major weird for say one parent to introduce themselves to another parent as “I’m Dr. So-and-so or Mrs. X”).

The one exception is parents still find it polite to tell their kids to call us with a title (and we did the same with our kids referring to adults), but most adults would just say “oh call me firstname”.

But I can recall from my childhood days long ago and far away, my friend’s parents I’d call them Mr. and Mrs. I have no chance to see them now but I would still do that and feel funny using a first name with them if I were to see them.

I like to have my kid’s friends call me by my first name but probably for the wrong reason-- it makes me feel a whole lot younger than I really am!

Yes, Miss Firstname sounds very kindergarten teacher to me, too. A good friend of mine is from the south and taught her kids to call me that way. I don’t care for it but it’s not worth making a fuss over.

I think Miss firstname solves lots of problems and I wish it was more common here. All of my kids friends call us Mr. and Mrs. and our older “children” are 26 and 24. This IS the age where that becomes a little funny. Funny because now we’re all working with people our kids ages and our kids are working with adults our age and of course, we all call each other by our first names. I don’t think it’s regional, because I’ve heard everything around here.

I still find it awkward when I’m at work (at a library) and a parent will say, “say thank you to firstname”. I really don’t want to be firstname to a five year old.

Starting when the kids were in college, I introduced myself as firstname to their friends, but I think it’s easier for them to just call me Mrs. Lastname because they don’t have to remember my first name. That, of course, changes if they become a real friend, but by then we’re all used to Mrs. lastname.

To answer the OP, I have been trying to tell my kids friends to call me firstname, but it’s weird.

My kids and their friends are like Justamom and rom828 kids. They will refer to parents by their first names when they’re talking to each other and as Mr. and Mrs. when talking to the parents. I would prefer my first name. When I hear myself being called Mrs. X, even after all these years, I think of my mother-in-law…

I am in the south and it is very common to be Miss X and that is what I was until the kids became school age. I’m a teacher and my kids’ friends had to call me Mrs. X at school. Now that my older son’s friends are in college, I am encouraging them to transition back to my first name.

I had an exchange student last year and he came in calling us Mr. and Mrs. My H and I insisted he call us by our first names. Calling us Mr. and Mrs. seemed way too formal for someone who was joining our family for a year.

Our office recently hired the son of one of the other employees and although he calls his father “Dad” when speaking to him, he always refers to him as “First Name”. I think it makes him sound very grown up and an equal. I like it.

Most of my friends’ kids call me by first names. The friends of my kids where I don’t know the parents generally call me by my last name (or more often my kids’ last name which isn’t mine) or even more often they just avoid calling me anything. Now that they are all in college if I catch them at it, I just say please call me “myfirstname”.
