When to send community college transcripts for freshman applicants

If your child has taken community college classes (or university classes) in high school, when do you plan to send the transcripts? I was thinking that my son would wait until fall grades are out, but that’s January 5th, and then the college says they won’t send them until a week later.

Do you think it’s ok to send them that that late to RD schools? He sent them to all the schools he’s already applied to-two EA schools and four rolling schools.

I’d love to know what others have done/are doing.

Best would be to check the deadline for transcripts at each school that requires transcripts.

(Not UCs or CSUs – transcripts are only required at matriculation.)

The forms usually had a box to check for “hold for posting of Fall 2014 grades” type of thing, and would deliver in a month for $3 and in 3-5 days for $5 or $10. I suggest ordering them immediately (for delivery upon posting grades) so you do not forget, and having them delivered with rush processing. If the student has several classes already, I would consider also sending in transcripts immediately (send in twice, to be sure deadlines are met- low cost insurance). I also found a timely and polite phone call (at community college) can get your transcript order pulled to the top of the stack if it is a rush.

ucb, the transcript deadlines are all most likely before final grades since I have no way of knowing just how fast they get to the colleges.

ItsJustSchool, there is a box to check for “hold for final semester grades”, but I don’t see anyplace that says rush.

If he sends them now, there are 14.5 credits on them. He’s taking 13 units this semester.

Well, maybe sending them twice to his reachiest schools is the way to go since there are only a few of those schools. The others can just get current transcripts and then a mid-year report.

What do you think?

That sounds reasonable. My DS went to 2 different CCs and a university in HS and another CC after. Each of the 4 had a rush option (I can hardly wait for those grad school applications- I can hear him bemoaning the paperwork already!). You may want to check the website or give the Registrar a call. Right now is slow season for them, the beginning and end of the term are their rush times.

Deadlines for support materials to applications are often a couple (or more) weeks after their deadlines for applicant materials.

Call the colleges and ask. The CC might know too.

I would think schools would want transcripts so far with application (by deadline) and then grades for this
fall in a midterm report.

Is your son homeschooled so that you are his guidance counselor? Are these CC classes his main academic activities?

Yes, I’m the guidance counselor and yes, these are his main academic courses this year-six college classes and one to two homeschool classes. He’s taking three college classes per semester.

One selective school indicated that transcripts need to be submitted by the deadline. We haven’t contacted other schools, but maybe based on this, I’ll send them now and after the semester grades are in (as well as on the midterm report).
