When to send test scores to Ivy

When do Ivy League schools require official test scores?

Kid submitted self-reported ACT and AP scores as part of the Common App. As a recruited athlete, the coach required REA/ED application from all commits. Everything other than CSS form has been completed on our end.

Will kid need to officially submit the test scores? If so, when?

I believe only Princeton requires an official score report as part of the application. This is only for SAT/ACT, APs can be self reported. All other schools will require confirming official scores at the time of matriculation.

Fantastic. Thanks for the prompt reply.

So, when is matriculation? Are we sending test scores at the same time as final senior transcript? That sounds late.

What are the remaining steps? CSS is due 1st Nov. When do we expect to get financial aid info?

At some point we need to let them know kid is attending and I’m assuming, pay a deposit. Then sending scores and transcript must come later.

Typically you get that with your acceptance.

If its an ED school, I think its sometime in January. But as soon as you get the offer you can click “I accept” and pay whatever deposit (varies per school, usually $200-$500). If REA than you have until May 1 to accept, like everyone else.

There is housekeeping in May/June… final transcripts, school report etc. That is usually when you send scores. After he accepts, his portal will probably have a new checklist. You will know when they need the scores.

ETA - you usually only have to send AP scores if you are going to use them, and Ivies can be quite picky about those credits.

It’s REA.

Will the offer come more quickly if I get CSS in before the deadline of Nov 1 or do we have to wait until all REA offers go out?

And kid has 4s and 5s on APs (plus a handful more being taken in May) but we arent banking on those counting for anything other than showing rigor. So maybe kid won’t need to submit thise.

Financial packages will come at the same time as the acceptance, whatever December date that is this year.

Ah. Ok. Thx.
So I just need to get CSS done by Nov 1 and then wait.

LL came less than a week after submitting app. Clearly admission has been busy already. We weren’t expecting it to happen so fast, so I’m trying to work out if I’m holding things up by not finishing CSS yet!

Thanks for the intel.

Congrats! Yes, do everything by the Nov 1 and it will be fine. They will let you know if something if missing. CSS is a bit of a pain though, so start soon.

I DM’d you. Look for the green envelope by your profile avatar.

We sent official SAT scores at time of application, but if possible send sooner because it was the last thing the school was waiting on. (Princeton)

OP should check but the list of schools requiring official scores before matriculating is very small.

Have you received credentials for the applicant portal and established your account? If anything is missing or needed, it will be indicated there. Also, check email.

What was the deadline given by your coach? Just wondering if there are different deadlines for different sports. From the coach’s email, it sounded like we can expect a likely letter within a couple of weeks, is that the impression you got also?

Yes, was about 2 weeks. The earlier, the faster the turnaround.

My kid’s coach asked for all apps from every committed kid to be completed by Oct 1.

Another kid at the same high school had a deadline (to the same Ivy but different sport) of Sept 27.

Another kid at the same high school (different Ivy, different sport) apparently hasn’t even started writing yet!

So clearly, it’s all over the place with timing.

According to my kid’s Ivy
Coach, admissions starts looking at athletic recruit applications on Oct 1, and applications from regular non athlete students on Nov 1.

On my kids portal it showed that the application was downloaded on Oct 2. Kid received verbal Likely Letter on Oct 7 on a call from the coach and a physical copy of the LL in the mail a week or so later.

Kid is absolutely not allowed to mention to any other commits about the LL until all commits have received theirs because they start getting squirrelly if they find out team mates are in but they’re not (which is understandable). We were originally told that we’d get the LL from a few weeks to mid December after applying.

Honestly, it’s $14. You’re targeting one school. Why not just log on to College Board and send the scores?

There is no need to SEND scores for most schools. Most schools allow self report anyway and coaches who needed more asked for a copy of the score report. The school and coach will specify if/when they need an official score.
