Good for the employee to bring this suit. Caste discrimination is religious discrimination and happens here in the US more often than people might think - by fellow tech employees/managers of Indian origin. This BS has no place in the US. Period.
Immigrants to the US should be compelled (by lawsuits, if necessary) to understand that the discriminatory customs of their homeland will not be tolerated in the USA. Brings to mind a favorite line from the Emilio Estevez movie ‘Young Guns,’ about the Lincoln County War in New Mexico Territory. In the violent conflict between two immigrant ranchers, Irishman John Tunstall says to his rival; “This is a new country, Englishman. We aint bowing down to you no more.”
What is surprising is that a large company’s HR and legal staff did not seem to realize that, even if this kind of stuff is not illegal, that it is (a) bad for business, and (b) possibly against other existing company policies (that big companies tend to have a lot of in this area). Also, if there is legal uncertainty, it is not like they would want to test this kind of thing in court.
Isn’t everyone jumping the gun here? It’s a complaint that is going to trial. But we shouldn’t automatically assume that this accusation is true.
It may not be true in this particular case, but this kind of thing happens probably not so rarely. It doesn’t hurt to look into minority on minority racism. The movie, young guns reminds me of Japanese immigrants’ racism on Korean immigrants.
True. But it seems to be a case worthy of being heard and explored.
The US employers aren’t encountering discrimination, they are doing the discrimination.
The title if this thread is gibberish. You would do everyone a favor by rewriting it.
