<p>most college applications ask you to specify your intended major on the application. i believe this is because within the university there are different colleges and each college has limited enrollments. Ex: I was accepted to ISU and the College of Human Sciences while a friend of mine w/ a nearly identical application and stats was waitlisted for the College of Agriculture at ISU because of her intended major and limited spaces available.
in other words, its just a way for the schools to get an idea of what college to put someone in.</p>
