Now, this I agree with!

The loss to Barcelona hurts, though, and Pepe with a red card? I mean, really? First CL game and a red card?

Poet,

I don’t want to hijack the thread too much, but it now looks grim. That should not have been a red. In 6 days we’ll know. I only got to see the game after I posted on here.

True-- not fair to hijack.

I’ve decided to go with Bruins. Why? Because when I was a little kid and we had that hockey game on sticks thing? One of the teams was the bruins.

Trying to watch the Bruins and American Idol right now. Bruins up 2-1 now. Go Bruins!

How could not even one official have seen Andrew Ference’s intentional cheap shot against Halpern? Good grief.

BRUINS win!!!

Go Wings!!

And no soccer talk allowed on a hockey thread, for heaven’s sake. This thread is for REAL sports. :)

(just kidding, just kidding …)

Caps fan checking in…

I’ve thought since about 5 games after the trade deadline that this could be our year. We’ve looked terrible at times prior to that. The comeback from down 3-0 in Game 4 might propel us to Lord Stanley. We still need a new coach, but Arnott has become our de facto coach.

Let’s Go Caps!

PS Neuvirth has never lost a playoff series in North America. He has 2 AHL championships and an OHL (I think) championship.

PPS Messi made Real Madrid look silly.

We Sharks fans sneer about mere comebacks from down 3-0. Dime a dozen.

(We will not mention going down 4-0 * two games in a row* to a team that has lost its leading scorer. Our lips are sealed in that matter. We also have nothing to say about speculations, founded or unfounded, that the Red Wings aren’t going to be allowing any comebacks from 4-0.)

Go Predators! Go Bolts! Go… I couldn’t figure out who to root for in the Bruins-Flyers series until I remembered one of those two teams doesn’t have Chris Pronger. Go Bruins!

We can’t link to blogs, but check out Yahoo NHL’s Puck Daddy for a picture of Don Cherry’s latest sartorial offering, on display during Canadiens/Bruins. I can’t possibly describe it, although it’s reminiscent of Alhambra tiling. You just have to look.

^^Whomever wrote that description of Cherry’s jacket in the blog stole his comment from Ron McLean, who, during the broadcast, described Cherry as “perfectly Faberge”. I look forward to the day when HNIC gets rid of Cherry and his drivel.

It appears that my support was the kiss of death for the two teams I was cheering for last night. Although I don’t like Chris Pronger, I do love Danny Briere and I grew up at Flyers games so I’ll be rooting for them in the next round, especially since they’re playing Boston. I could never cheer for Boston after their antics against Montreal.

Will also cheer for Nashville as David Poile was a childhood friend. I don’t really know much about his team other than Geoffrion and star Shae Weber but look forward to watching them play Vancouver. Also looking forward to getting to know the Sharks a little better as I’m not a big Detroit fan. It’s feels so weird that, other than the Leafs and the Sabres, the Red Wings are the closest team to us yet they’re in the West.

I can’t believe the next round starts tonight! Here’s hoping for a regulation win for someone so no late night that interferes with getting up early for the big wedding tomorrow. :)

I don’t even know who to root for anymore. I just can’t see myself cheering for either the Bruins or the Red Wings, so that leaves the Flyers, but they beat my Sabres, and the Caps, but they vanquished our Rangers. What to do. I’ll have to wait and see how this all shakes out over the next couple of weeks. I suspect I will support the Eastern Conference, no matter who ends up in the finals. I’ve always liked the type of player that Danny Briere is, since his days in Buffalo, so maybe, if anyone else has to win, I’ll go with the Flyers. But Alwaysamom, I totally agree about Pronger, I could live without him, and if they don’t figure out the goaltending thing, it could be a quick series with the Bruins. I suspect we’ll see Boucher in goal. . . until we don’t!

Cool, didn’t know this thread existed. FYI, I’m a Pens fan so I’m resigned to either root for teams I sort of like or against teams I absolutely hate. Hmmm. Hate wins. So go Boston and Tampa. I’ve always taken a liking to Canadian teams, especially out west so I’m rooting for the Canucks.

What to do? Why, root for the Sharks, of course! C’mon, you know you hate those evil red-pajama-wearing Euroweenies from Detroit. And wouldn’t it be great if the Predlies knocked off Vancouver?

Evil euroweenies? I like the way that sounds, but really - why all the hate for Detroit?

To me, Stevie Yzerman will always represent the Red Wings (even if he did bail on us for Tampa.) Classy, self-deprecating, modest, hard-working - what’s not to like?!

Rabid Red Wings fan here. Rooting for the Sabres (H is a Buffalo native, played hockey his entire life), but if they hadn’t lost this round someone (Boston or Caps?)would have undoubtedly knocked them out.

Go Wings!

scout59, for me, it will always be Gordie Howe.

It’s all about the emotion. I can’t even watch a hockey game if I don’t care who wins.

Speaking of players we hate-- perhaps because we get sick and tired of the media fawning all over them-- my son and I have a running bet about Versus, and how soon, when covering a Pens game, they will talk about or show a certain player who we are very tired of hearing about and who was not even playing. Two minutes? One minute? Thirty seconds? The over rarely wins the bet.

Sure enough, last night, during the third intermission of the Montreal/Boston game, Versus switched over to Bolts/Pens. What do you suppose was the very first thing they showed us? Why yes, it was Sidney Crosby, sitting in the press box. Must-see TV, I guess. Then, later, when the Pens lost, and we were waiting to see the handshake, Versus felt it was somehow necessary to cut away from the celebrations on the ice to show us Sidney Crosby’s back.

Get rid of Don Cherry!!! NO!!! What would Hockey Night in Canada be without Don Cherry and his blazers?

Okay, Cardinal - here is ONE thing we can agree upon:

a loathing of Sidney Crosby.
