I am a student at a top 100 university with about a 50% acceptance rate. My dream schools are Georgetown and Penn. I want to transfer out, but my GPA of 3.84 (with the midterm report) is a hindrance. Even greater hindrances are my ACT score (30) and high school GPA (3.1). I have fairly strong extracurricular activities, but my GPA is simply too low for my dream schools. Can anyone suggest schools that are strong in economics but not as selective as Georgetown and Penn?

Not that bad in my opinion, take your shoot and good luck!

Ugh… 3.84 gpa isn’t bad at all.
Don’t let CC standards get to you.

I agree with the two above; a 3.84 GPA is good! I think you should apply to your two dream schools, but also to some other top 100 schools with higher acceptance rates just in case.

In your application, try to place emphasis on the fact that you’ve been putting a lot of your time and effort into your extra-curricular activities, hopefully with some career / life goal in mind. Show the admissions officers how your blend of activities actually makes you better than the applicant with perfect grades.

Oh jeez, I saw the subject line low GPA and thought 2.5-2.8. I think your are competitive with a 3.84

Thanks for your input!
