Where can I find free practice problems?

Hello! I dropped out of calculus and am working on some self-study. My biggest struggles in my calculus course were related to logarithmic functions (I don’t understand them at all) and trig (I understand it at a basic level, but am not solid at it).

Every piece of advice I read for understanding these concepts is “work through problems until your arms fall off, then work on some more.” However, where do you guys get your problems? I’d really like help finding good problems and great solutions. Thank you!

A Calculus textbook.

I would strongly recommend a calculus textbook. You can find plenty of them online for dirt cheap. Odds are your library has several of them that you could check out as well.

I would recommend a trig or precalculus book - not a calculus book. Doing calculus problems that involve logarithms and trig will help you memorize a process… it won’t help you learn how logarithms and trig functions work. It sounds like your problems are from a bad foundation in the lower math courses and practice there will benefit you more than calculus practice.

If you don’t want to buy a textbook, I would just google “logarithms practice problems” or something to that effect and there are TONS of websites or pdfs you’d be able to find. That’s how I got my extra practice.

That’s a very good recommendation too. A calculus book is going to assume prior knowledge of those topics, and it isn’t going to go through the process of teaching them.

Many trigonometry books actually have a review of logarithmic/exponential functions in them. Something like that would be a great idea. You really do need to have a solid understanding of trig functions and trig identities, as well as the properties of logarithms and exponents.

Baileyj57, your suggestion has been the best. Googling those terms brought up a ton of free problems with solutions. Thank you!

I don’t like textbooks as they usually only tell you the final answer, and offer no “here’s how you get the solution.” They’re not effective for teaching yourself.

That’s what solutions manuals are for. The solutions manuals are frequently even available for free on the publishers websites.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I’ve never had luck finding solution manuals. The online worksheets you directed me to are fantastic, though :)
