Where can I find this personalized candy?

Does anyone remember the 1" diameter, flat, round, soft candy personalized with hard icing? They could be ordered in any color and were often at bar/bat mitzvah parties or weddings. My sister and I had them in red and blue at our 1966 bat mitzvah party in Buffalo, and I still have some of mine in pink and white from my 1982 wedding. I can only find personalized tins, or M&Ms, or personalized wrappers. I’ve searched but no luck so far.

I don’t know, but may I offer suggestions of where you might find help?
Based on what you’ve told us, I’d try big catering companies, especially those who are likely to have jewish clients. Maybe also if you can find bigger reception halls with the same clientele. Perhaps some in a Temple may have catering ideas.
Even big florist companies may have seen/dealt with candy suppliers at such functions.
Good luck

I don’t remember these, but I’m on the left coast. The personalized candy I see these days at b’nai mitzvot and weddings is primarily those custom-printed M&Ms. Some people also create personalized York Peppermint Patties using the small size (1", I believe) candies and printing their own circular labels with a logo or pictures.

I would try a site like the knot, they may have links for candy, look under unique favors or candy in the wedding shop (top right corner)

You are talking about the personalized part being directly on the candy, not on the wrapper, yes? You can still get that done on things like sweet tarts, and even on chocolate(I’ve seentham at local gift shops and catering places). we did the personalized hersheybar wrapper at our younger son’s bar mitzvah, but now tht the wrapping has changed (all one piece of wrapping instead of paper over tinfoil stuff) that probably doesnt work so well anymore.

I love this web site [Food & Candy](<a href=“The Best of Vermont from The Vermont Country Store to your door!”>The Best of Vermont from The Vermont Country Store to your door!) for old time stuff you cant find anywhere else anymore, but I dont thingk they do personalized stuff. Did you try putting in “personalized candy” into your search engine and check out all the sites that pop up? I’ve been having fun doing that since I read your request!

Yes thanks, I have. Lots of tins, lots of wrappers, also M&Ms and the conversation candies. But nothing like the flat discs that I remember. There was a local candy maker, Watsons, in Buffalo who also made similar mints, but not personalized. They are still in business (sponge candy!) I went to high school with the Watson kids. They made Valentine hearts in chocolate, with the names in hard icing. But these were flat discs, the bottoms had ridges like corrugated cardboard, and the tops slightly rounded. I’ve tried combinations of search terms. I was sure someone here would remember them! I’ll try the other suggestions about caterers and florists and Jewish venues. Thanks!

Is this the type of candy you mean?

[Lammes Sherbet Mints](http://www.hometowncandy.com/sherbet-mints.htm)

I was thinking they we sort of like discs, hard exterior, soft interior, kinda like the old spree candy only a little bigger? [Spree - Candy you ate as a kid®](Old Fashioned and Retro Candy - Home of Candy you ate as a kid®)

Noticed you are in FL. I had a candy maker made K miniature laptops in dark chocolate for S’s Bar Mitzvah. This woman could make molds and then personalize.

Sounds like Merrimints which were flat mint discs that were ridged. There are no longer made. I suspect they were personalized by the local bakeries. The Vermont Country Store has some that are now made to be “like” Merrimints. [Pastel Mints available at The Vermont Country Store](<a href=“The Best of Vermont from The Vermont Country Store to your door!”>The Best of Vermont from The Vermont Country Store to your door!)

We used to eat flat mint/white chocolate discs like these. They did not have ridges, though. We called them Pastel Mints and they were like these [Pastel Mints](http://www.robitaillescandies.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/hierarchy/00/product-id/47974.html)

You might be able to order some and have a local bakery personalize them.

YES! Both the Lammes Sherbet Mints and Vermont Country Store Pastel Mints look right. Either will work. Now to find someone to put the names on them. I guess people don’t order these anymore for parties. They are so much nicer than a tin of mints, or M&Ms. All of this searching is for a friend…so on her behalf, thank you.

3kids,
i watched part of Dr Oz today, and he showed all the germs in bowls of mints. He said to never eat anything that isn’t individually wrapped. Perhaps that’s why the cute mints have gone out of favor. I’ve seen little bags of covered almonds, tied with ribbons, at each place setting, but no bowls of candy.

Speaking as someone who has personalized various things for favors, I suggest that you opt for an initial or initials. MUCH easier to achieve a good result. Someone should be able to do it for you using either royal icing or chocolate. Royal icing is usually easier to control and will stick better to a sugary surface. Real chocolate doesn’t stick well to coating “chocolate”–like Merckens-- and vice versa.

If you are reasonably handy and have ever used an icing bag and tip you could do it yourself using royal icing.

sunnyflorida-
Did you notice that the link I linked to in post #5 goes tothe Vermont Country store? Great minds think alike. I love that site!

I did not!!! But I do now :). I have not ordered from them in years. But I love getting the catalogs once in awhile. And I love dreaming of eating some of the oldie candy! Funny, but I have ordered things from them but never candy. If I did I would eat the whole box the day it arrived. I know better than to order…

^^ Funny you should mention the catalog. When I was on their site trying to find this candy, I filled out the form to have them send me a catalog!

jym, the only problem with the catalog is that it is in black and white. Unless things have changed… I would look through it wishing it were in color. But thinking that it was bad for them and good for me, because I would consider buying more if it were in living color!

The Vermont Country Store catalog is now in color. I received a recent one this week. I don’t see the pastel mints, but I’m sure you could call them and see if they’re available. I’ve ordered some of their old-fashioned candy in the past for my mother’s birthday and they were as good as she remembered them. Have you ever been to their store in Weston, VT? Its loads of fun.

The catalog only has a small portion of what they have available online, so I am sure the mints can be ordered.

I am glad it is now in color. Are there more photos now instead of the drawings?

Its almost all photos, with a few colored drawings. Except for the “underthings”, most items are not shown on models. I think the catalog has been in color (and also full-sized) for several years.
