I’m going to go straight to the point. I’m really bad at the sat, and standardize tests in general. My first and only time I took the sat I got an 1110. I was just wondering where I would get into on the east coast. However I due have good extracurriculars like national honor society, NJROTC, peer leadership, and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
Well, for starters, you can retake the SAT.
LOTS and lots of schools with a 1110, though typically not the ones you read about here on CC.
Go to a college match site-- I think the one here is still down. When they talk about admissions, you want either “open” or a high percent of kids admitted.
the last practice test I took i got 1260 so i’m aiming for breaking 1200
What is your GPA, weighted and UW?
gpa 4.311 weighted and my school doesn’t calculate the unweighted (long story)
Depending on your major, you’ll get in at a lot of schools. If you’re thinking Ivy that will be a stretch. And if you need a lot of merit money it might be tricky. I would guess you’d get in at most NJ state schools at a minimum.
Have you mostly taken honors classes and a few APs (which ones?)
You can get into a lot of colleges with a 1100, and even more with a 1200.
What state are you a resident of?
What’s your parents’ budget or their EFC?
What majors are you interested in?
Are you willing to venture South or to the Midwest?
I have taken all honors and ap classes during my high school career. I like in NJ and I was planing to major in either engineering or business.
Engineering is going to be very tough. Njit and Rowan might work. See if Clarkson is test optional. WPI is, instead of sending test scores you must send a portfolio showing why you’d qualify for engineering.
There are really some fantastic schools that are test-optional. You’re a great student, and I bet they’d love to have you. Off the top of my head two very worthy, prestigious schools that don’t require standardized test scores are Wesleyan and Middlebury.
You’d have way more choices if you’re interested in economics/business.
Middlebury does require standardized tests.
Check out Worcester Polytechnic Institute, George Washington University, Fairfield University, Loyola University Maryland. All of these are test optional schools on the Northeast for engineering and business.
Middlebury accepts three SAT 2 subject tests if you prefer that to the basic SAT .
