I was just wondering what type of medical school option would I have based on the following criteria.

I am going to graduate this year with a degree in Psychology from UCLA.

Stats:
3.51 GPA/3.61 Science GPA (This includes all of the pre-med courses I took) My first quarter was rough because I was adjusting (I got a 3.0) but ever since then I have gotten nothing lower then a 3.55 grade point average.

28 on MCAT (10,9,9)

Extra Curricular:
Fours of volunteering at UCLA medical hospital, well over 1000 hours, president of 2 clubs, peer counselor, Residential assistant, deacon, couple of summer jobs, community service activities, and tons of research.

Hooks
Low Income
Amazing life story
African American
First in family to go to college
Parents are both terminally ill (Father disabled, mother diagnosed with MS)
Received full ride scholarship through Dell to attend UCLA.

Considering the fact that you are a freshman, that’s quite a projection.

Examples: African American candidates with MCAT scores between 26 and 29 and GPAs between 3.4 and 3.6 were admitted to:

UT Southwestern (http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=1956)
Michigan (http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=4680)
Columbia, Harvard, UCSF (http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=3539)
Cornell, Chicago, Michigan (http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=3609)
UT Southwestern and Baylor (http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=249)

These are five of the ten candidates the search brought up.

I would consider your race-adjusted index to be a 72 (35+28+9), a number that is well in line with the averages for Harvard, Hopkins, Penn, UCSF, Duke, etc. This does not yet incorporate your illness/socioeconomic family background.

I don’t mean to be too encouraging - the last thing you should do is apply only to such sorts of schools, because the process is very random and far too complex to be simply data-driven. But in your position, I think the data gives some cause for optimism.

I should note that a BCPM-based index would be even more to your favor, since your BCPM is higher, schools’ averages are lower, and the race-adjusted gap is larger.

you have a GOOD chance, especially considering the fact that you are a URM. im not sure what norcal meant by you being a freshmen, but if you indeed have those stats you have a good shot.

From his past posts, it appears that he is a freshman.
