Hi Parents! I posted this in another forum, but I’m not getting answers, and you guys are always so helpful :)

Yes, I know I should not have waited this long…

Moving in on Thursday.

My roommate bought a red-orange bedspread on eBay (since it’s been discontinued @ IKEA). ([IKEA | Bedlinen | Duvet covers | TANJA BRODYR | Duvet cover and pillow sham(s)](<a href=“Products - IKEA”>Products - IKEA)) So I’ve been endlessly searching for a solid dark teal bedspread to go with it, but never found one. So I’m still looking for a decent bedspread or duvet cover that will go with hers.

But now I realize that extra long twin sheets are rather hard to come by this late in the season. Preferably, I would like 300 thread count (this is the real reason why I’m having such a hard time :D)… but it looks like I might be stuck with 250. I don’t mind buying these online (but I’d rather not get stuck with the ridiculous 1 or 2 day shipping costs). Home Goods didn’t seem to have any, and we didn’t have much luck at Kohl’s, JCPenney’s, or Bed Bath & Beyond. But I think we might just have to look at the other stores in these chains throughout the area.

I also need an extra long twin mattress pad.

You’re just going to have to keep checking, perhaps buy whatever color you find in a suitable threadcount and get the color you wanted later on. Mismatched sheets are better than no sheets. I found my stuff at Bed Bath and Beyond, though saw they had some stuff at Walmart last week. Perhaps look on amazon? Shipping costs might slam you but if all else fails it might save you.

ETA: Did you check walmart? I saw some decent ones last week around here. I got my stuff at BBB and I actually think I got my pillows and mattress pad at a Marshalls.

The website [College Dorm Bedding - Dorm Room Bedding - Extra Long Twin Sheets - Twin XL Sheets - College Sheet Sets](http://www.campusbedding.com) has high quality XL twin sheets available. I think Land’s End also carries them.

Thanks for the answers! Tomorrow’s my birthday and my mom’s starting a new job, so I’m hoping we can still spend one full day just going everywhere to check everything.

blink: IMO the thread count is not as important as the length of the fibers. Pima cotton is nice. And if you are open to other natural fibers, e.g., beech, thread count is not as important.

BBB may have XL mattress pads, but if it doesn’t, don’t despair. Dorm mattresses tend to be much thinner than those for which most twin mattress pads are designed, so a regular twin mattress pad will probably work. (you may have a couple of unpadded inches at the foot of your bed, but you are unlikely to notice it.)

Mafool: Seconded on the regular twin mattress pad working. Check the mattress before you buy it to make sure it’s not a full thickness mattress (one hall at my boyfriend’s school has them, seemingly just to screw with everyone’s heads), and if it’s a thin one a regular twin size will be fine. I bought my boyfriend one for Christmas, I just tried to find one that was pretty deep so even if it wasn’t quite long enough it’d still fit around, your feet won’t care.

Agree with what some others have already posted – because dorm mattresses are never all that thick, regular twin sheets, pads, etc, will probably fit since they’re made for much thicker mattresses. I’m also a stickler for thread count, so can sympathize with OP. I couldn’t find an egg crate pad for S in twin XL, so just ended up getting him a regular twin size. I figured it didn’t matter if his feet didn’t have the cushy egg crate under them.

Thank you so much everyone for all the tips!! (And for the birthday wishes :)) I’m researching all of these options!

I’ll definitely look into just getting the twin size mattress pad… I also got a fiberbed, and that’s just a twin… I’m sure all that will work out :)

And my mom’s now thinking that for now I can just use some old sheets/blankets we have (especially since it’s still summer), so as not to rush to get the perfect bedspread and sheets now. I’ll be less than an hour away from home anyways.

I got for my D really nice soft jersey sheets in twin xl from kohls.com. I also bought her a memory foam mattress pad and mattress cover from target.com.

jcpenney.com always has lots of xl twin sheets, some with 300 thread counts. You can order them on line and have them shipped to you at the dorm if you are worried about getting them in time.

If you are willing to wait you might find them in the Target or BBB in your collegetown. When I looked local for my son in early August the BBandB and Costco had nothing in dorm sized items. But I went to the local Costco last week and they had an entire aisle devoted to things you might need in a dorm. From mini-frigs to small microwaves and sheet/comforter combo packs. I think in my home city they waited till it is closer to move in day for the Univ of Ca that is located in my city to stock the items.
I also stopped yesterday in a Target about 45 minutes from home and they still had a ton of twin XL comforters and sheets. That city is also home to a Ca public university that I think has recently started for fall.

I’m a big fan of overstock too. Bought all DS’s original bedding there last year. Just bought the replacement twin XL foam mattress pad last week after the puppy chewed up last year’s the day before he was scheduled to leave (it’ll be shipped right to school). I also like limiting myself to the super-sale stuff on their site–makes the decisions way easier.
