<p>My daughter just finished her junior year at Wash U. She has an internship in NY for the summer and thought she had housing in the New School dorm. She did not get the housing. Does anyone have ideas, suggestions? We think most of the college dorms are long ago taken. She wants to look on Craigs List, I dont feel comfortable with that. But Im not sure what to suggest. Help</p>

<p>My D just used Craiglist to get an apartment in Paris for two months for her internship. </p>
<p>Get references if you have to once you negotiate the rental.</p>
<p>92nd St Y has temporary housing from 30 days to 1 year. My d is going for the month of June and we just arranged it in the last 3 weeks. There are 350 kids that can stay there, mostly they go for internships.</p>
<p>Would agree with Susan re: Craiglist. It’s very late to be arranging housing, as you know, but she might be able to find something close to where she’s working. She may also want to have a look at the NYU livejournal community. There are always current students who are looking to sublet their rooms/apartments. The Y is certainly an alternative but it is very expensive for what you get and isn’t very conveniently located.</p>

<p>Accept, you might want to PM Binx. Her son and his roommate are hoping to sublet their apartment which I believe is near Juilliard. I don’t know if it’s still available, but a quick PM should give you the answer.</p>
<p>Try NYU housing, specifically NYU Law School dorms. These dorms, several of them, are regularly sublet for the summer to college interns. </p>
<p>My son interned in NY for 11 weeks the summer before his senior year, and I believe we were looking about this time, perhaps a bit earlier but not by much. The dorms were recommended to him by the company where he was to intern. We figured they’d be full but we were wrong.</p>
<p>He lived in a high rise NYU Law dorm at Mercer and Broadway. It wasn’t particularly inexpensive, as you may think, but it was safe and the location was great…security at the desk in the lobby was always there. </p>
<p>I called them a number of times…they were helpful and cordial and understanding, as we had no frame of reference at the time for NYC.</p>
<p>I don’t know anything about this, but came across it when searching for a different apartment building with the same name in another city- it appears to have dorm-ish housing for female college students/new graduates.</p>

<p>Mezzomom - I had already PM’d the OP, but didn’t hear back. I think my S has found a subletter - he came last night to see the apt and is supposed to come back today to sign things.</p>
<p>We learned last year that it is not at all unusual to find an apartment the week you need it. It was stressful for us not knowing for months where our kid was going to live, and wanted to arrange something far ahead, but that just doesn’t seem to be the NYC way. We did find S’s apt via Craigslist.</p>
<p>My daughter has the same dilemna - only in Boston. Her internship starts in fall (September) for 13 weeks. Any ideas for that area? Craigs List seems to be more last minute. Also we are unsure of the area. The internship coordinator suggested Brighton area. I was thinking about a possible sub-let from someone who may be studying abroad for the fall semester. Any other ideas?</p>
<p>a second recc for Educational Housing…D’s friend used it when he came to NY for NYC Teaching Fellows.Not cheap,but furnished and safe and full of kids from all over.Ready made peer group for someone new to the city,unlike being stuck in as sublet alone.</p>

<p>craigslist is still your best bet AmMom–but she may have to wait until late June or July to find those ads posted. There will be plenty of kids subletting their apts because they are going abroad for a semester. She may have to take the apt for 16 weeks.</p>

The dorms are in three different neighborhoods. </p>
<p>My d has a friend who lived in the South Street dorm. It may seem far, but it is not that far away.</p>
<p>Thank you all for the feedback. My daughter checked out the dorms at NYU and The New School. She thought she was in at the New School but was wrong. Now she is looking at Craigslist. Her internship is in Soho. Hopefully she will find something near and safe. It may be difficult to nail something down from here in LA. I’m trying to let this be her problem. But I really appriciate all the posts and info here.</p>
<p>My d’s best friend goes to The New School and subletted something second semester. If you would like I can ask her how she found it.</p>
