I thought it would be an interesting topic to find out where some of the “popular” kids ended up in their adulthood.
Class of 1986:
Senior Class President - attended Stanford on a soccer scholarship and is now a successful wealth management executive.
The Player - studied business and joined a fraternity at San Diego State. Is now a bond trader.
The Cheerleader - after college at a UC, became an audit partner at a Big 4 accounting firm.
The Jock - played running back on our awful football team and is now helping run his dad’s construction business.
“Most likely to succeed” - attended Berkeley, got into politics, worked with a well-known senator, and has had various high-level government jobs, positions.
The Surfer - bright but unmotivated son of two doctors. Dropped out of college and was working at a surf shop last I heard.
The Partier - had an affinity for cocaine and after HS, worked at a resort as a dive instructor, was apparently dealing drugs and drowned mysteriously in the Mediterranean.
Overall, I think our class has done pretty well in life so far. Many are married with kids and a surprising number have come back to live in the city we grew up in.
My class president is a lawyer, school principle, and adjunct law professor. The valedictorian works for the United Nations. Most likely to succeed is an assistant district attorney. Most popular girls are a business owner, pharmacist, and owner of a wedding business. The main jocks now work at colleges (2) and one went into the military. I went to an all-girls public school.
Most of our class was very successful as well, including the school bimbo who married a sugar daddy 50 years older than she and now has a private jet, yacht, etc… Karma fail ; )
The jock who I THOUGHT would end up pumping gas actually got drafted as a Major League Baseball player and got a multi-million dollar contract. He was on a World Series champion team. Another jock played for the Red Sox and didn’t do great in the 1986 World Series.
The cheerleader, a real “mean girl,” had a special needs child and did a lot of advocacy work.
No @doschicos, you are not alone, I have no idea about what happened to my classmates. Don’t really care, just take care of myself. Did have one exception though, my best friend from high school is a wanted fugitive/felon. Maybe I didn’t go to the best high school?
I went to a lower income rural high school and some of the stories are pretty sad. A lot of the kids who “got out” were the awkward ones or the nobodies in HS.
Lol. Let’s just say one of the popular kids is now at the forefront of a scandal which CC is VERY interested in. Sorry to say for those who love some good schadenfreude that he was a nice guy growing up. I’m sure you all know who I mean.
The rest that I’m aware of are now all pretty successful doctors lawyers and business people.
Most Talented / Most Likely to Succeed — I’m retired.
Most Athletic — My best friend, who was also my freshman college roommate, earned her PhD and became head of toxicology at Avon and, later, Bayer Pharmaceuticals. She is now retired, too, and married to the Chancellor of Rutgers University.
Pretty much everyone I knew and still keep in contact with from HS has done very, very well. We were a tight class (as tight as 650+ can be) as ours was the first to complete all three years at the brand new high school (we determined the schools colors/mascot, wrote the school song, came up with the school motto, etc.), a public in a small Downriver Detroit town.
ETA: My brother was a top gymnast and President of his class at that HS two years later. Our school still holds an informal picnic-style combined reunion in town every year for all of those early classes. I go when I can, and it is always well-attended. We love our HS though it no longer exists under its original name as the (now) city combined all remaining high schools into our old location due to dwindling enrollment.
No clue - never thought to find out. I’d have to look at my yearbook to even remember names of more than maybe 10 classmates. Perhaps due to my personal/family situation, I closed the book on my pre-college life pretty much as soon as I started college.
@maya54 Did you listen to the Gangster Capitalism podcast(s) about him? It went fairly extensively into Singer’s background. I think you’d have to be a pretty personable guy to pull off what he did so it’s not surprising that people liked him.
I am Facebook friends with a lot of high school people, but really can’t remember who was what! And I graduated with only about 65 kids in upstate NY.
The girl who I think was Val went to Cornell and is now a doctor in ND. Sadly, the partier, who was a great guy, passed away from cancer several years ago. My best friend (who my mom hated and I drifted from before graduation) became a drug addicted stripper, but is now recovered and happily married.
The vast majority have stayed local and work various jobs - construction, super market, etc…
Our class president got a teacher pregnant and ended up marrying her. Thirty something years later, they’re still married. He’s a newscaster in a fairly large market (I won’t say where, because if you live there you’ve probably heard of him. I didn’t like the guy, but I respect his privacy.)
The top athlete, who played football at a top Division I school, became a police officer and was killed in the line of duty in his early/mid twenties. He always seemed like a good guy, and it was sad to see his life end like that.
The valedictorian was my best friend (so much for being influenced by one’s peers) and is now a professor/researcher at a major university. His wife is a minister and officiated my wedding.
Don’t know about any of the cheerleaders. I’m friends with several of the popular kids on Facebook even though I was the class nonconformist. They seem like decent people for the most part.
