Where did you find your Dorm Room bedding?

Wanted to see where some of you have bought dorm room bedding? Online sites, stores, or thru the College/University?

Also has anyone bought a small safe? I saw one on one of the many college visits that the school had a vendor that rented them to the kids. D chose a different school but looked like a good idea.

Bedding at target, jersey sheets are popular but they stretch. most schools use twin xl.
Check for shopping lists threads on CC, they have lots of information.
we bought a small safe, it was never used

those threads are in the Parent Cafe

It depends on what she wants. Have you tried Pottery Barn Teen or Pottery Barn? Both have online sites. There is also an online custom dorm site, Dorm Suite Dorm. All three have some nice items and are good places to get decorating ideas even if you don’t make a purchase.

Sheets: D got Pure Beech Jersey at Bed Bath & Beyond. Her beautiful comforter she’s complimented on was from K-Mart! Picked up a Nautica set on clearance for S at BB&B last fall (he’ll be entering this fall).

D is studying abroad this term, and wishes she had a food safe! Has food stolen all the time. When her unopened yogurt containers were being taken, she started eating a little out of each yogurt container. Still got stolen. Yuck!

Thanks for the info!

Also try TJ Maxx and Marshall’s this summer. They usually stock dorm bedding as seasonal items. Make sure you know what size bedding your students school has. Usually it’s twin xl, but not always.

The Company Store online for sheets and Target for other stuff. Look at the shopping/bedding threads in the Cafe.

Bed, Bath & Beyond has a great selection of the twin XL “bed in a bag”.

Kohls has big sales on sheets during the summer too.

Overstock online. Got nice quality sheets with higher thread counts for less than the sale price at Target or BBB. They are sheets I would use :D. I had good luck there with a comforter and a memory foam type topper too.

We did our college linen shopping in our linen closet. Regular twin jersey knit sheets fit xl twin beds. Kids wanted to take the comforters from their beds. We had plenty of towels to choose from in our linen closet. We got the mattress pad at Bed Bath and Beyond.

That would be nice if we had that option, Thumper. We don’t have any twin beds though :D. I think I saved some Batman sheets from when our oldest was little but that might be it.

Target the year before starting college. Got them when they were on clearance the previous fall.

Dorm room bedding located at home. It originated from (I think) Target (sheets and heavy comforter) and Costco (light comforter), though.

College mattresses might be longer, but they’re also thinner, and my normal-length sheets can be forced to fit over.

And a safe is probably not necessary, but it depends on what college. I leave my room unlocked, and so far nothing’s gotten stolen yet.

Pottery Barn Teen had the sheets/design my teen wanted as she went off to her first year of college. Got all the dust mite covers/mattress pad, etc. needed for her allergies at Target.

Nightshade, you are very lucky. All students should lock their dorm doors when they are not in the room even to go to the bathroom. Sorry…leaving dorm doors unlocked should not be encouraged.

Having said all of that, neither of my kids took a safe.

Good places to shop…BBB,
Target, and you can also get good sheets at LLBean online sometimes on clearance. We know folks who found things at Marshalls too.

On-line at Pottery Barn (teens). But then, I saw XL at Khols and cheaper ones.

@thumper1

Yeah, I only get away with leaving my dorm room unlocked because a) my dorm has really good security and b) people within the dorm are trustworthy.

NightShadeQueen-I worked as an RA for two years and trust me when I say that it’s not the people in the res hall you need to worry about, it’s the friends/significant others they bring into the room. I can’t tell you how many stories I heard about “My roommate’s friend came over and now xyz is missing.”

You’ve been EXTREMELY lucky so far. It won’t keep up long. Do you lock your car when you leave it? Why? Because you don’t know everyone who’s going to be around your car. Your apartment should follow the same logic. You never know who’s in the building/near your apartment. Most people take advantage of crimes of opportunity.
