Where did your 3.3-3.6 GPA child get in?

Son, 3.4 or 3.5 w, accepted ED at Susquehanna, which he felt was a perfect fit. I am glad the process is over, but was very pleased to find (with no help from our GC, but a lot from CC) how many good options there are for the B+ student with matching boards and no hooks. I wish everyone an equally happy result.

Yabeyabe - could you elaborate a bit on Susquehanna, as far as the pros and cons. There is not much activity on the Susquehanna thread. I’m particularly interested on your thoughts for a boy who might be a business major, likes sports on the intermural level and is Jewish. How remote is the location? Do you feel there is enough to do on weekends? How is the housing? My son is only in 10th grade, but I like to look ahead! Thanks.

D was accepted ED at Elon. GPA: 3.2 UW, 3.6 Weighted on 5.0 scale or 3.9 Weighted on Elon’s 6.0 scale. ACT = 27. Class officer, varsity team captain, NHS, etc.

Rockville, sorry I did not see your post until now. (And congrats Laf!)
Re SU, the pros are that the vibe is extremely friendly and informal; classes are very small (none over 40); mentoring seems very common; intramural sports are very varied and popular; campus is beautiful; dorms are at least average; business school is accredited, has a broad curriculum and is popular; graduation and job placement rates are very high; college ******* website student happiness rating is very good; on campus activities are very numerous; kids appear to stay on campus on weekends; lots of parents report good experiences; orientation and first semester programs seem very good.

Cons are that it no city is closer than 50 miles; the town is a mall and a few other places; the Jewish population is about 3% (although a full time rabbi/director of Jewish studies started this year and seems very nice; and the food seems typical for a campus.

I forgot all about this thread. So even though I’ve already posted this elsewhere: GPA now around 3.4, in at Pitt, Ole Miss, and Alabama.

OP here…

Son got accepted at Santa Clara U and deferred at GTech. He applied EA to both.

This thread will get new updates hopefully…with EA/ED results in.

We are happy with the SCU acceptance.

Organized , yes. Communicate—NO! :)

Not sure if i’ve already posted on this thread or another but…

Son 3.1UW, 3.5W, 29ACT (SATs a disaster)
Accepted so far: Pitt, Drexel (EA), UConn (EA), Vermont (EA), Ithaca (RD), Hofstra (EA), Northeastern (EA, deferred).

Applied only for business school at all colleges. Waiting on 6 others, before the big financial aid hunt begins.

S2, 3.49 UW on transcript (including HS courses taken in MS), 3.56 UW 9-12, accepted EA at UChicago. Full IB and many APs at competitive admit public IB program.

pixeljig/OP: Congrats on SCU, I’m sure you’ll love it there!

frugola: Big congrats to you! What were your son’s EC’s like?

My son: 3.6UW/3.8W; SAT1 1580/1600, 2290/2400; ACT 33; SAT2: 800 Math2, 780 Bio E, 740 Bio M, 700 US Hist; AP Scholar w/Distinction World Hist (5), Bio (5), Lang & Comp (4), Stat (4) US Hist (4). Rank about top 15% (competitive HS). Mediocre ECs.
BioMed/BioEng Major

Rice ED: Denied

Applied/Applying: U Penn, Case, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Boston U, Emory, Tulane, Georgia Tech, WU St Louis, U Rochester, U of Pacific, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Cal Poly SLO

son’s ECs almost nonexistent. Only 4 years of tennis on varsity (although just as a doubles players, not star quality).Too busy buying and selling on e bay and doing various fantasy sports teams - not exactly marketable activities for college apps.
Congratulations to everyone on their successes!

So happy for all these kids! They all have so many good options.

Glad to add to this wonderful thread.

My S1 with 3.58 unweighted GPA was accepted EA at University of Chicago and University of Notre Dame.

Still waiting to hear on all of ds’s applications. He has a weighted 3.55 (for UC and Cal States). NHS, lots of volunteer hours, vp of Christian club.

Applied to: UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, and San Diego State University, and University of the Pacific.

The wait is killer. :))

Can some parents give me suggestions? I have a 3.5 GPA and do not plan to submit test scores (in reality, I’m looking for test-optional schools). With all of that said, I want to major in International Relations, what schools should I look at that offer this major? I’d like a school that gives good FA/merit aid.

Here is a list of SAT optional schools.

I only wish … neither of these qualities are possessed by my D!

bluecrayon have you looked at the list at http://fairtest.org/</a> ? It’s too late now for the ED test optional option at Amercian, but I think they’d still be an excellent choice for a B to B+ students with good, but not outstanding scores who is interested in IR. Their merit awards tend to go to high scorers, I don’t know how their financial aid is.

Also to update this thread. S1 with 91.3 unweighted GPA got in U. of Chicago (Note that GPA would be 88 if you take out all his orchestra grades - so we were justifiably concerned). He has taken 3 APs (5s on all), and is taking 3 more this year. SAT1 was 790V, 690M, 670W (superscored) and SAT2 790 US History, 730 Bio E. I think he had great recommendations and his essays were quirky and really showed his personality and intelligence.

Congrats, mathmom, that is very good news to hear.

My ds got his acceptance letter from University of the Pacific today with the Presidents Scholarship ($6500 a year). :))
