That is amazing, really considering your gpa. Did you have extraordinary community service? Are you from California? Congratulations on all your choices.

DId you not see that the person was in the top 2% of the class? Thatās the problem with this thread, IMO, is that grade distribution varies widely at different schools. A 3.6 GPA in our high school puts you in the top 10% of the class! Most colleges look at how the applicant does in the context of their own school and many reconfigure the GPA according to their own formulas.

Iām a senior. Asian Male, non-athlete, middle-class, no legacy anywhere, no excuse for low grades besides laziness

Stats: 3.15 UW GPA, top 40% class rank, 1540/1600 SAT, 800s on 2 SAT IIs, 5s on 4 AP tests, good ECs but nothing spectacular

Good luck to everyone just starting the process!

This post is old but I had to reply my surprise at several of the rejections. We need smart kids in engineering and these stats show brains. Also, I can pretty much copy and paste my Dās stats from yours into this message. She is just starting the application process into film schools.

3.4 Unweighted GPA, All Honors; 6 APās; ACT 34; SAT 2170; National Merit Commendation (211); consistent ECās, very tough private, NO HOOKs-good recs

Iāll have to repost in the spring, after the letters start coming in.

Congrats on Rensselaer. I hear good things!

Iām the 3.3-3.6 GPA child, but I am SO glad to have found this thread. Parents seem much saner than the student posters and Iāve finally found a place where my GPA doesnāt seem like complete dirt (too many 4.0 students everywhere else).

I have a 3.35UW and am full IB. 31 ACT. No hooks, but my ECs are extraordinary (27 total with sustained commitment and leadership roles in almost all of them. Most are service oriented) and my teacher recs reflect that.

Iāve been accepted to University of Oregon and am waiting on my dream (and huge reach) school: University of Chicago.

Going through this forum Iāve seen a few UChi acceptances for low-GPA kids and thatās so good to hear. I think Iām a good candidates on the subjectives, but theyāre just that- subjective. Hopefully itāll work out in my favor :)

Can we revive this thread? I would be interested to hear what acceptances/applications are in play for this group?

Good idea--

did your child apply early decision to UoP? Was the merit scholarship significant for you? We are waiting on decision from UoP.

I will post for DS13ā¦

Started senior year with weighted 3.3 GPA, ACT 31 Composite. Upward trending (got all Aās this semester), several APs and dual enrollment, good ECs and excellent recs.

Accepted:

University of Arkansas,University of Alabama, Ole Miss (merit), University of Louisiana at Monroe (full ride), Tulane and Loyola.

No denials yet, but will apply to University of Va., and knows its a huge reach. Also awaiting word on scholarship offers after first of year, as that will make a big difference where he attends. May also apply EAII to St. Johns College-Sante Fe.

He is taking a gap year after HS and that may also impact final decision. There is hope for the B student, though, especially if upward trending, I think.

D13: 2.9 GPA (no weighting) Strong upward trend since sophomore year (closer to 3.8 in the last two years) unranked, SAT: 780CR, 650W 620M

Accepted: Tulane EA, U of San Francisco EA Waiting on RD schools

D has a 3.6 (with an excellent Junior year), 1230/1600 1850/2400 SAT, and 27 ACT. So far sheās been accepted to Ursinus, Quinnipiac, UMASS, UNH and Clark. Deferred at Cornell where she applied ED.

Scoopāto which college did your daughter apply at Cornell? Congrats to her on the other acceptances.

My daughter applied to ILR at Cornell. That particular school fits her interests and profile (Mock Trial president, very strong in history and similar subjects), and she has the benefit of being a legacy (although for a different college at Cornell). Her admissions success so far (admits everywhere except Cornell, as well as very generous merit offers at Clark, Quinnipiac and UMASS) seemingly confirms my (admittedly biased) belief that her essays were very strong, and her teacher recommendations must be enthusiastic. Sheās still a long shot for Cornell, but the deferral gives her hope.

Sheās got a number of āmaybesā on the horizon (F&M, Muhlenberg, Dickinson, Lafayette, American and Gettysburg). Sheās hoping to get into at least of couple of those places, and then weāll see where the dust settles.

to Crizello-- DS applied EA to U of Pacific-- but I think they have rolling admissions so I am not exactly sure how that works. Not much of a merit scholarship considering the price of the school and compared to the other merit awards. 6k per year was what he got. He has not visited the school-- he is still waiting on a few schools plus merit for Denver so we will see how interested he is in U of P after he hears from the rest
