USC Marshall
U of MN Carlson
NYU Stern
CMU Tepper

Do you have any idea what you are interested in as far as location or size?

Big school please! Great business programs with entrepreneurial focus are a plus. Location is not super important but I love a big city

bump10charā

AyiteāHave you considered Bentley or Babson, both in the Boston suburbs? Babson is known for their entrepreneurial focus but Bentley is the easier admit.

You might receive more responses if you reposted with a title stating what you are looking for.

I have looked at both but they are both very small schools :(

Are these all reaches for me? I will be applying Business schools. or should I apply to arts and sciences then transfer to business?

University of Wisconsin-Madison
Penn State University, University Park, Pa.
University of Southern California
NYU STERN

I would suggest IU-Kelley School of Business, Marquette and Miami,Ohio-Farmer School of Business.

My daughter (from southern Pennsylvania) has 3.5 gpa & a 26 ACT. She is interested in a larger-size school in a non-rural setting. She would prefer a school within 3-4 hours drive and will likely be a communications major. So far she likes Towson, Univ. of Maryland/College Park, and Univ. of South Carolina, but she needs more schools, any suggestions?

UDel, Coll of Charleston, Va Tech, Geo Mason, James Madison

Ok, how about some suggestions for S:
3.44 GPA at very small, very competative public HS (mostly all honors and AP classes).

BUT⦠hereās the kicker:

SAT of 2250

Looking at Naviance, for many (most?) of the better schools heās in the weird situation that:
- If they rejected him, he would have the highest SAT of anybody from his HS that they rejected.
- If they accepted him, he would have the lowest GPA of anybody from his HS that they accepted.

Heās interested in schools in the NE and would like to study Film/Journalism (wants to make documentries)

soze-Emerson in Boston is good for film study. Northeastern a good option, too.

I donāt put a lot of store in Naviance. Donāt let it worry you one way or the other. We have had two kids with GPA in the 3.0-3.5 range be accepted to strong schools (top 50 USNWR). For each, what sealed the deal was personalizing their applications to show their passion for their chosen schools, why they are good for that specific school and what they have to offer the school.

He visited Northeastern and liked it, (BU as well).

I think the issue with Emerson is that itās pretty much only a media school. If he wants to do something else, heās sort of boxed-in.

Iām pretty sure heād get into Northeastern, BU and maybe NYU. But then the list gets dry. I canāt even come up with a potential reach or ED school for him.

Carnegie-Mellon? Very hard to predict because all the engineering kids are mixed in and skew the stats high. But again, heād be the lowest GPA kid from his HS to get admitted there.

Michigan?: His GPA is very much below the line, but it might be worth a shot.

I have an older son who āwastedā his ED I on a school that he had zero chance on getting into and I donāt want to make the same mistake this time around.

Carnegie Mellon is tough but you are right, engineering kids stats may skew the profile. FWIW, my DS got into engineering at VT with moderate scores and grades. OOS. NO hooks. Its do-able.

What about Fordham, Lehigh, Drexel, Penn State, Bucknell? Michigan would be a reach but why not reach? Same w NYU. You have to try some reaches.

These are all somewhat reasonable choices⦠but
Fordham: A bit too Catholic.
Lehigh: The worst location in the world.
Drexel: Reasonable but if he wants to go the co-op route I think Northeastern would be a better choice.
Bucknell: Son is Jewish and Iāve had direct feedback from several parents that Jews are really not welcome there (there is apparently open anti-semitism on campus and the administration does not really seem to care). I know at least three kids whoāve transfered out in the past few years because of this ā one of them was heartbroken because it was her ED/dream school/1st choice, etc. Also in any case I think itās a bit too remote for him (otherwise I would think a place like Oberlin might be a good choice).

Wow. Never knew/heard any of that about Bucknell. I can see why that would be discouraging. Disturbing, really.

Yeah, itās apparently a very hush-hush thing.

The last straw for the girl I was talking about had anti-semetic grafitti drawn on her door and she was encouraged by the administration to ignore it. When she told them she was transfering because she felt unwelcome, they apparently didnāt seem to care.

She got the last laugh though, she transferred to WUSTL, which by pretty much any reckoning is a much better school.

She did get the last laugh there. WUSTL is def a better school.

Iām sad to hear that Bucknell is not a welcoming campus for itās Jewish students. Itās shocking and disheartening to hear that any university would tolerate such behavior.

Glad she found a home WUSTL ā what a fantastic school!

Thatās a hate crime and should have been reported to police and the ACLU.
