Where do engineers live?

I really love allison but it seems sooo far away from the engineering stuff…

You’re right. Many (most?) engineering students live in the North section: Elders, Lincoln. My son lives in Elder.

Sargent is literally next door to the Technological Institute (Tech). In fact the basement exit of Sargent is about 10 feet away from a lower level entrance of Tech. During the winter students sometimes go to Tech from Sargent in their flip flops and shorts because of the proximity.

There are plenty of engineers who choose to live on south campus though, so if the distance isn’t a problem for you, I’d say go for it.

aabbcc… but i also heard Sergeant is a super party dorm since it’s right next to the frats… sounds like a strange combination… all of the nerdy engineers and the crazy partiers
Is Sergeant the dorm where the furniture is chained to the walls or something? haha

well if you don’t mind long treks to tech during the winter then i say go for any dorm… and i don’t think the furniture is chained to the walls…not the rooms i’ve visited anyway.

Many engineering students do live on North campus, but I personally know a couple that live in the South. Especially if you have a bike/skateboard/scooter or something, the distance shouldn’t be that much of an issue, so you should live wherever you want.

Also, isn’t there a residential college specifically for people interested in engineering? Slivka, isn’t it? You could check that out.

And Smilee – I think that might be Bobb-McCulloch that has the furniture chained to the walls. But I’m not sure. If anyone knows for sure, please correct me. But Bobb-McCulloch definitely has the worst rep for partying. Don’t live there if that’s not the kind of social scene you want.

oh yea good point about bikes and scooters siemprecuriosa… there’s also a shuttle that runs North from South Campus that runs relatively on time…so you can always take that. the southmost stop would be by the Northwestern Arch (Gate) thing…and one of the North campus stops is right in front of Tech.

With the engineering classes on the Northern end of campus, I’d think you’d prefer to live in that area too. I mean, sure you can find lots of all kinds of kids in all different dorms, but the majority of the engineering students live in the North for a reason.

If you live in that area, you’d eat at the cafeteria in Sargent’s.

^ Does that shuttle run during the day? I thought it ran only during the night. But then again, there are a gazillion shuttles around here, so maybe I’m thinking of the wrong one. -.-

both the intercampus and ryan field shuttles run north on sheridan road during the day

I always lived on South Campus, but North Campus isn’t too far of a walk - just walk quickly in the winter! But, as an engineer, it would probably be better to request something on North Campus.

So funny to hear about wanting to live in Allison Hall! When I went there, it was an all-girls dorm and NO ONE wanted to be assigned there!
