Where do I put National Honor Society on the Common App?

Right now I have it listed on Academic Honors. I’m treasurer, so I put that in parentheses. Should I also put it in the Activities section? The issue with that is that we’ve only had 2 meetings so far so I wouldn’t know what to put for hours/weeks. Also, I feel like not much needs to be explained because they’re probably very familiar with NHS. I have 8 activities so far though, so I have the room.

Another question is should I put rowing camps on my Activities sheet? I did a full season of rowing the summer before my junior year, which I listed, but the summer before my sophomore and senior years I did 5 day overnight rowing camps. Is that unnecessary? What would I put for hours on that? I already have my school crew season listed (my most important activity), and a rowing-related fundraiser.

I would leave it in Academic Honors as you have done and not get into it in Activities, since you are just beginning.

The rowing camps sound unnecessary to me given your other rowing-related entries, but it’s a judgment call, since you are demonstrating a passion and your commitment. If you want to add it, put it once, with two grade levels checked. After the name of the camp add the phrase (5-night camp) and estimate the hours as the day’s activities (probably 40 hours or so in five days.)

One way to do it is to list Crew as an activity, then put See Additional Info in that itsy bitsy space they give for description. Then in your Additional Info doc, put a Crew heading and then bullet your major Crew accompolishments & activities under it (you can include the camps there). I would just use regular Crew hours & training time in the “hours per week” question.
