We all know the type, the kid who coasts through high school, does real well on tests. Where do they go from where you are?
EX:

1450’s with a 3.2
1520’s with a 3.0

…u get the idea

they kick ass at state schools

or continue to coast through state schools…

well the other problem is that with test prep etc. there are people who aren’t that smart and still get high sat scores… ie this person in my class who is not THAT smart got 2380 because she paid like 10k for prep classes… so this makes me supportive of the schools that don’t just care about test scores… although this does screw the people who are really smart but slackers…

aka me (tenchar)

well i was a slacker with high test scores, no prep classes or books, and i went to drew u. i am now waiting to hear from oberlin, which may not like my slacker ways but it likes my athletics.

Naval Academy

they tend to be the winners in the end cause lets face it, sat does measure intelligence to a certain degree whether you like it or not.

all tests measure intelligence to a certain degree…

hey Wanderer,
thats so true back in the old days of the 70’s. I read the post aloud to my hubby( USNA’78) just before I saw your answer. He said what you said.

it’s a good place to go, many kids get shaped by it… I think I could use the training if my parents weren’t set on me going on some 4 year gunshot to the head.

all tests measure CERTAIN TYPE of intelligence to a certain degree…

the word ‘intelligence’ is to vague to be measured in any way possible.

er … awesome…

What if you coast through high school with a 4.0? Then what do you do? Go to a good college and drop out?

to the_wanderer:
you said “all tests measure intelligence to a certain degree…”
Well, the SAT is not one of those “tests that measure intelligence”. My IQ and my SAT score have absolutely no correlation.

The SAT was originally developed to measure IQ. IQ and SAT scores DO have a correlation. Then again, IQ is made up and inherently biased and no one should trust it or care about it.

true.
claire, you cannot say that any IQ test you have taken is any more valid than the SAT.

…McDonald’s would be a good safety.

the_wanderer, I was about to say naval academy too. it’s weird these people are so bright and i have to struggle just to get a C. but i was the opposite, high gpa-low sat

SAT scores really just pinpoint your interests. In 8th grade, I took the sat for the first time for a TIP program and got a 700V and 500M. Ok, what does that say about me? It says that I’m good at english and bad at math, but really doesn’t say everything about me? It doesn’t show that I’m an artist or that I an an exceptional piano player. My current SAT is even more misleading (700CR, 640M, 550W) (Haha yes, I got the same CR score in 12th as I did in 8th) How did I ever get a 550? I’ve won national writing contests and my english teachers have all told me that I should become a writer. For the essay, they are looking for specific things and even if you write a good essay, if it is missing those things you are screwed. The only part that you can’t fake is the math section.
