After the latest CNN fiasco I thought news outlets would be a little more careful. I wake up this morning and look online and read a timeline of the last night’s events that concludes suspect #1 dead and suspect #2 in custody. Another tidbit, 2 suspects have been in the USA legally FOR ONE YEAR. I turn on the TV (CNN… oops!) and see that suspect #2 is at large. wait a sec… didn’t I just read suspect #2 was apprehended? I check the clock on the TV screen to see if I am watching a rerun… no, it is live. Also later learn that both suspects have been in USA since “early 2000s” not one year.

Where do you get accurate up to date news from a source that tells you what they know, qualifies severely that which they are not sure of, and doesn’t make up stuff if they don’t know?

I was directed to a Reddit thread last night and was amazed at the information that was presented and how carefully people presented things with comments like, “this may or may not be relevant but…” and many many photos, some of which looked better than the FBI released photos along with comments that they were being forwarded to the FBI.

I go to places not in America, as they have the best outside look that isn’t tainted by American politics. If I want to know the American politics I look at the BBC, if I want to know the business news, I look at analysts of other countries.

I wonder how many major news outlets put the incorrect names of the suspects out there yesterday. I know I saw two names all over the internet yesterday that are different than ones verified today.

Some of the news outlets actually get their news from reddit. One of my friends online is in Venezuela, and he was fairly active on the Venezuelan subreddit. His posts wound up actually getting quoted on various news networks. After he found out about it he avoided being online for a week or so because he didn’t want the authorities down there to figure out who he was.

NPR isn’t THAT liberal, is it? My father is a conservative libertarian (big Glenn Beck fan), and he listens to NPR a bit.

I used to watch MSNBC, but I’ve completely given up on political opinion programs. I still watch some of the early afternoon MSNBC programs for the news. But after 4:00, I get out of there.

Seeing as GLenn Beck is about as accurate and legitimate as a banana that tastes like an orange…

I couldn’t tell you what I am… I’m supposed to be Republican but the last time the Republican stood for a Republic was a long time ago. I guess you could call me a militarist with Republic tendencies that also voted for Obama because the other option was horrendous?

I hear ya; I’ll never understand how my father can listen to Glenn Beck. Every time I see Beck’s face, my stomach turns. Not all conservatives are that bad (Shepherd Smith comes to mind.), but Glenn Beck is just a nutjob.

Well he’s not a nut job he just isn’t legitimate. But that doesn’t mean some of his things aren’t logical. For instance some of his defense for Israel was actually well researched and merited thinking.

Yes, I suppose everyone gets something right every once in a while. But I find most of what Glenn Beck says to be absolutely reprehensible. I’m certainly not a conservative; but if I were, I’d find a better conservative to look up to than Glenn Beck.

I LOVE the Daily Show and Colbert Report. But be careful when watching them for news; although they don’t peddle a political agenda to the extent of Fox News or MSNBC, they still have a comedic agenda. If they can stretch the truth of a story to make it funnier, I have no doubt they would do it. It’s just part of their job as entertainers.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that many of the political commentators on MSNBC, Fox, etc are playing a role just as Colbert is on his show. I don’t think any of them truly believe what they’re spouting. A lot of it is calculated stuff that’ll keep ratings and book sales up.

It seems like the issue is not how biased the news is, but whether or not what they’re telling you is the truth. When those in the media incorrectly identified suspects, they weren’t just being biased - they were flat out lying.
