Thanks, VeryHappy! Did find a white shirt at Penney’s (darts & slightly tailored, so good).

Thanks, MOWC. I didn’t pop into Banana 'cause I thought they’d be pricey. Should give them a try. The Nordstrom at our mall does not open until next Sat, thought it was today, oh well!

Btw–are mainly cotton shirts okay w/formal, solid colored suits? I used to wear more silky type of blouses, but almost everything is almost 100 % cotton, now. Guess that’s all right?

Cool, thanks! Just trying to get up to speed. I was going to ditch my ‘string of pearls’ too, but couldn’t find anything as conservative, so might go w/them or nothing.

Jolynne, good luck on your interview! I have alway worn cotton shirts with my interview suits.

I had a very similar shopping experience today. D needed pants and a dress shirt for her internship interviews, so off tho the local mall we went. Gladiator sandals and patent leather sneakers in wildest colors took over every shoe department, including the one at Nordsrom! We saw very nice wrinkle-free shirts at Banana Republic, but they were not on sale. We hit the jackpot at Express which had all of their long-sleeved taylored shirts 40% off, and they looked very similar to the ones at Banana Republic. The only denim pencil skirt in the entire mall was size 6, so guuess who ended up its lucky owner - not me :(.

Thanks, Bunsen! Isn’t the mall funny? I’m thinking – in this economy, where are people working that they can buy $90 gladiator stillettos, or flowing, cleavage-baring, jewel-encrusted tank tops? No offense if anyone wears those, but conservative attire is definitely in the minority.

I just snagged a white 100% cotton wrinkle-free fitted shirt that I will be wearing with my suit when we present our project to top brass who are flying in on Tuesday. It was at Nordstrom’s Rack; marked down from $78 to $30 and I used my $20 off coupon so I got it for $10+. Even tho it’s all white, it has a very interesting pleated design while still being conservative & formal.

I’m debating about stockings–generally only weer them for weddings (when I’m IN the party or the bride). I think I’ll forgo them, but who knows what will happen by Tuesday.

Was in the mall yesterday, Banana is having a big sale. Also, Talbots sent me a flyer last week for 20% off anything (on sale or not), I found a pair of shoes online and paid $31 + shipping (after coupon). This was major for me, I have narrow feet and cant go to stores like Payless.
I found nothing in Macys but got a few things in Ann Taylor Loft. I have good luck in there with work clothes, my office is “business casual”.
Good luck with the interview.

Banana Republic has great sales, esp. if you are X-Small or X-Large. A couple of weeks ago I got my youngest 3 lovely camisoles that had been marked down three times because the only ones left were size X-Small.

Thanks, HImom! And, your shirt sounds great (just like what I was looking for…I’ll have to go to the Rack!). Good luck on your project presentation!

Thanks, too, FallGirl. I should have gone into Banana yesteday, had no idea they were having a sale. I can’t shop at Payless either (although I’m currently wearing a pair of pumps from there – I shouldn’t they kill my feet). I went to the Walking Co., and they had awesome pumps that felt fabulous ($99). They had a leather rosette on the side, though, so couldn’t go for it (not conserv enough). That store does have at least a little selection of dressy/casual dressy shoes that are majorly comfortable.

Thanks, VeryHappy. It went well (2 hrs long) I guess. Partner was friendly & informative.
Guess we’ll see if he offers (has other candidates).

It’s in a non-prestigious area of the law (small firm doing small bankruptcies) but…can’t argue that it’s not a booming biz, these days. Plus, it’s good for me to learn a federal area of practice – much more portable (should we ever move) than a state-law-based job.

Clothing felt okay; thanks for the tips! Seems I can get away w/the hair down, as long as suit/shirt/pants are ultra-conservative.

Thanks–I’m pleased with the packets I’ve put together that we’ll hand out tomorrow at the reception. It’s amazing what a difference high quality and heavyweight paper make in the feel & look of the materials.

I’ll have to get to Banana Republic. They were having a great sale earlier last month, I’m surprised they’re still having a great sale.

Well, I bought an outfit at Talbot’s. I don’t think that I have ever bought anything at Talbot’s before. I really wanted a dress but I gave up. The skirt is the “Brushstroke Floral Skirt”. I bought a ribbed tank top to match but it might be too casual. Maybe I need to buy a twin set. I prefer jackets but don’t know how that would look. I ended up buying the petite size because the regular skirt was almost down to my ankles. I asked the salesperson what length it should be and she said that every length is good. Humm…I hope that is true.

Candace, the skirt sounds terrific. For the tea you’re concerned about, I’d go with a twin set. I buy almost all my clothes at Talbots (well, I used to, before I stopped buying clothes altogether . . . ) and, IMO, they’re always in good taste.

Candace: Thanks for the update. That sounds perfect and I’ve been thinking anything from Talbots would be right for the occasion and am going to look up your skirt online. Agree with clerk that every length is right LOL

And belated good luck to everyone job searching or with special work projects!
