Where do you hide your good jewelry you wear regularly or just want easy access to?

I have to admit I haven’t been hiding it, but I need to. I have a couple rings and earrings that are expensive. I want to put it somewhere in my bedroom or bathroom,.

In a tampon box. Just don’t forget where you put them!!

I’m not putting my hiding places on a public Internet message board!

I will tell you we’re NOT to out it. I had a friend who hid all of her jewelry on a pair or two of boots when the family went on a vacation. Well guess what she did? She donted the boots to Goodwill…but OP’s…she never took the jewelry out of them. In fact, she never gave it a second thought…until her husband asked about one of his rings…at least six months later.

My good jewelry goes everywhere I go: it is small and not flashy.

Why Thumper…do some people actually know who you are? I don’t mean that sarcastically, but I guess I was under the impression we are all anonymous.

I don’t hide it. I have a piece of furniture that holds my jewelry.

Actually…yes. Some people here do know who I am.

Plus many people (and I’m probably included) have posted enough information that one could easily figure out my name and address.

But in case anyone is interested…I’m with BB. The only nice jewelry I own goes with me everywhere…because I’m wearing it.

I hid some jewelry so well that I have no idea where it was …nothing very valuable, but I also have wondered if it wasn’t swiped.
This topic is timely because it has been on my mind lately that I have to be more careful. Our area is seeing a dramatic increase in heroin addicts and that goes hand in hand with break ins and jewelry theft. I am aware of spots that thief’s generally seek out first. I think I could find clever places to hide my things. My dogs are big barkers and if you didn’t know that they happen to be friendly corgis , you might think twice about entering my house…that and my next door neighbor is a cop who seems to be home a lot and working in the yard during daylight hours

I have a jewelry holder that’s built into a cheval mirror. It’s great! I don’t normally wear any expensive things so that stuff is elsewhere in the room or in the closet. Nothing in the sock drawer though, that’s too obvious.

I don’t hide any of my jewelry but I do keep some extremely expensive jewelry (inherited) that I wear only on special occasions in a safe deposit box at my bank.

Yes, I keep the best stuff at the supermarket bank safety deposit box. They’re open nights and weekends. I wear the nice stuff or keep it in the box. It’s too easy to lose when I “hide” it. I almost disposed of two nice ruby rings which were in bags I was giving away. Fortunately, I found them before donating.

My lingerie drawer was ransacked and all the jewelry gifts from MIL were stolen. We then stuck with safety deposit box.

My relatives have built in safes in poured concrete in their foundations. We don’t.

There’s the hollow book that you put in the library. Or the plastic container that goes in the ice compartment of the freezer.

My sister was robbed of all sorts of things recently, her “good” jewelry was mostly not taken, but some sentimental things were. When I travel, I hide all my non costume stuff in half a dozen places, and I email the list to my DDs and myself so I won’t forget. But I don’t keep it there all the time, perhaps I should, DS was robbed when she was at work.

It’s too dang hard to keep things straight when moving them around. The safety deposit box is a good place to stash the motor vehicle docs and other valuables, so we just have the one box. I believe I lost one black pearl somewhere, but otherwise haven’t lost jewelry since we got the supermarket safety deposit box. To me, it’s handier than the regular one at the bank, because their hours are better and it’s only 5 minutes from our home.

Gotta laugh since this has come up recently.
At least tell somebody in your family WHERE it is! Write it down somewhere safe or give it to someone in your family so if something happens to you they have a clue as to where to look!
Don’t make them dig up the entire back yard! Don’t laugh–someone I knew did exactly that. Not funny at the time! At least tell them what part of the yard to dig up.

So–good hiding places–places outside the immediate home parameter (so not your underwear drawer!), weird spot but memorable to YOU (and someone else could find given direction). Somewhere fire/flood won’t hit. Something that would be examined before sending off to GoodWill or just tossed in the trash.

lje62–share where you definitely would not keep your valuables. Very helpful advice!

Don’t keep the jewels in the jewelry box, sock drawers. Underwear drawer, bathroom drawer. Too obvious.

On the other hand, some of the most valuable historical artifacts have been found by farmers amd contractors digging. Suttun Hoo, for example. Soldiers and families in war or social upheavals buries their treasures as the only available “bank”. If they never returned, it was left for history.

Yes, the burglars got my sock drawer and underwear drawer and all the jewelry in those drawers. That was it for me. I no longer keep valuables in those drawers, but do keep some sterling inexpensive pieces that I wouldn’t be heartbroken if they were stolen. Burglars are pretty good at finding the obvious places–they want to get their stuff and get out quickly.

I recommend buying a small safe.
