Where do you hide your good jewelry you wear regularly or just want easy access to?

We did not have an increase in premium after I filed the claim.

I do have to say that the whole ‘appraised value’ seems like a hoax. I’d much prefer to pay my premium based on either what I paid (which could go up with inflation or some other measure over time) rather than some imaginary price that no one ever pays and, of course, it would be reasonable to receive that amount of money in the event of theft or loss rather than the higher, appraised amount.

^^^ No one ever pays out , meaning if you were to take your jewelry to someone who buys it like a jeweler or pawn shop ?

If you lose an expensive piece of jewelry and are paid the insurance money, do you have to buy a new identical piece or do you just get the money to do with as you please?

you just get the $$

If hiding jewelry makes thieves stay longer to search, I’m all for leaving jewelry boxes in plain sight on the dresser. I’d rather lose whatever few valuables I may have than have a family member walk in on a robbery.

We never re-purchased our stolen pieces and probably could never find anything similar–heirloom pieces (too gaudy for our tastes anyway). H bought pieces we prefer instead when he went on trips.

Our appraisal is specifically for, replacement value. We will get it redone in four years…they want a current appraisal every five years.

If you but a piece of jewelry for $5000 and expect to try to re-sell it to a jeweler for the same amount, it’s not going to happen. This is a point of confusion for many people when it comes to appraised values. It’s not all that different from driving away from an automobile dealer with a car values at $30G and expecting a dealer to pay you that if you decide to try to sell it

Some things about this thread make me want to cry.
Some things make me think I cried enough when the Bozo threw my jewelry out.
Some make me think I need to look for another insurance company.

(Sigh)
