Where do you put your sweaty clothes?

After you’re done working out, what do you do with your sweaty clothes? Do you just throw them in the hamper? Last year, I handwashed them every time, and I think the people on my floor thought I was nuts.

Um yeah, in your hamper.

I don’t see why you would need to hand wash sweaty gym clothes, because you really should pick cotton things that are easy to wash in a machine, and don’t need to be treated very delicately or cared too much about.

I would try to separate them a bit, since I sometimes would be too busy/lazy to do laundry and had to fish out a pair of jeans or something from the hamper and didn’t need them smelling like the gym. But most of the time, I was too lazy to even do that so I just threw them in the hamper after I let them dry a bit. If you don’t want them stinking, throw them in a plastic bag and throw that in your hamper, and keep a fabric softener sheet in the bottom of your hamper, or something else to keep the stink away.
Also, no workout clothes can’t be normally washed. I wash my under armour/nike heatgear/etc all the time with my other clothes of the same color and they are still fine, years later. Just don’t over dry them.

You weren’t crazy, imho. I do laundry about once a week and if I throw my sweaty gym clothes from running each morning into the hamper the room can start to smell interesting if they’ve been brewing there for awhile. You know those boxes of baking soda you put in the freezer to suck up food odors? Try putting one by your hamper. Also lightly febreze the clothes before tossing them in. And MAKE SURE THEY ARE DRY.

Plastic bag was a good suggestion, too…but then it’s doubly important to make sure the stuff is dry.

Can you purchase a hamper with a lid on it. If so, put you stinky clothes in there. Or if you don’t like to spend extra money, use a green garbage bag.

^^^ Smelly…

I keep my sweaty clothes separately from my hamper, namely because I might use a clothing article at the top of the heap if I’m in a rush or if I dont want to waste my time with a new shirt (I wear my shirts 2 times before I wash it). Putting sweaty clothes on a hamper would be disgusting, so i usually kinda pile it next to the hamper or put it in a separate hamper/bag.

I handwash gym clothes not because they’re delicate but because I don’t want them to stink over time. I then mix them in with my other clothes when I do laundry (which is once a week).

use baking soda!! it helps so much and lasts a long time if you keep it in one of those permeable boxes they are sold in.

the extra compartment in my back pack… then I go home and put them in the wash. Not every day, though.

just buy one of those febreeze plugins or whatever. I have practice every day, do laundry like every 2 weeks, and my room never smells.

I hang sweaty and wet clothes over a chair so that they can dry. Once they are dry, you can put them into the hamper. They won’t smell.

definitely hamper. i don’t do laundry unless it’s totally urgent…and i’ve definitely been guilty of buying underwear so as to put it off for just a few more days haha

once i had a rough night, got sick, and dirtied a pair of my jeans…i put them in a plastic garbage bag to wash the next day, except i totally forgot for about a week. needless to say, i just ended up tossing them. gross.

I always put them in a different hamper that is washed more often than my other clothes.

In the laundry basket, after they’ve dried. As long as you let them dry after you take them off it’s completely fine to put them in your normal hamper (they shouldn’t smell after drying). Then you can just wash them with everything else.

I think it’s pretty clear that the chicks posting in here don’t sweat very much when they work out. If you sweat enough, it’s just not gonna dry. Trust me.

I’ve always kept my laundry basket in the closet. That way you don’t have to deal with the smell most of the time. You can put baking soda/Febreeze/whatever in there if you want.

wow you guys must have really bad b.o. After my workouts I just put it in the hamper, and this is after using it twice (why wash them if youre going to make it dirty again the very next day?>work out everyday) and they still smell like snuggles. try using a antiperspirant+deodorant stick before? not the sprays cause i find them not as effective in letting you smell nice after time.

oh and leah, i did that too (shirt, jeans, inside shirt, etc…) and had to wash those clothes 3 times before the vomit odor was gone.

It’s not gonna dry - really? So my hand-washed clothes will dry, but not your sweaty gym stuff? That’s interesting!

Hamper, but I don’t get clothes out of the hamper to wear again. I just keep clothes that I’m going to wear again in my closet, but pants and hoodies are really the only thing I’ll wear more than once.

I agree with Lethargytm

My cloths get soaked with copious amounts of sweat after a bike ride, but they don’t smell, and they dry pretty quickly.
I don’t re wear them due to hygiene reasons, but I could.

Infact, they are usually dry by the time I get out of the shower.

Maybe it’s your cloths, are you wearing cotton to the gym? Try a synthetic shirt. But also your body chemistry may be a lot different.
