Given all that is going on in the world, this seems trivial - but it is driving me nuts…

After 25 years of using Wisk Laundry detergent, over the last few months it has disappeared from the shelves of the local stores here in Central California… Anyone have any idea why?

I’ve been noticing for a while that so many brands are disappearing. It seems like laundry detergent nowadays is mostly Tide, in all its variations.

Unilever (UN)(UL), the the Anglo-Dutch consumer giant, said Monday that it has agreed to sell its North American laundry detergents business, including the All, Snuggle, Wisk and Surf brands, to a private equity investor for $1.45 billion.

The buyer, Vestar Capital Partners, plans to combine the businesses with its Huish Detergents business that includes the Sun and White Rain brands and call the new company The Sun Products Corp.

Huish also makes detergents, fabric softeners, dish care and personal care products under private label names for major retailers.

Snuggle was my favorite fabric softner. But they changed the original blue to something called “Blue Sparkle”. Now I never buy it because it smells nothing like my “snuggly soft” fabric softner!

Not to hijack the thread, but all (LOL) I can say is they better not start messing with my All! Honestly, I hate it when some brand or version of a product I’ve been using for years just disappears from the shelves.

I stopped using Wisk when Oxyclean came around. Maybe with the spinoff, there is a temporary shortage. I think Wisk has a strong product recognition factor. I have never heard of the new company or products they make. If they make private label detergents, maybe you will find in in a Walmart brand bottle!!

This is how we know we are getting old…when they no longer make our “products”. We swooped up two cases of my favorite toothpaste from E-bay when they stopped production of it…this is my planned life (or tooth) span…to go out with the last tube of toothpaste. Never mind that its shelf life will be long since gone!

Also dont mean to hijack the thread, but I seem to have a talent for liking products that are then discontinued When I spot them at places like Big Lots, I buy up all I can (did this with my now-gone favorite hardwood floor cleaner from Johnson, and the saran bowl cover things that looked like shower caps). I never did find the yellow popcorn that was made by Frito Lay (Chesters), that my DS loved.

Big Lots does sell the Sun products-- not sure if they have Wisk. Do ou have a big Lots near you, SCUalum? You might want to check it out for Wisk.

This is going the direction of Elaine and her ‘sponges’ on Seinfeld! In addition to Big Lots, I have found discontinued brands at Ollies if that chain is in your area, it is worth a shot to see if they have Wisk. They only have the ‘high concentration’ version here, I have noticed, since I am quite the coupon clipper and can’t find the regular version anymore.

I remember years ago when General Foods International Coffees changed the recipe for its Cafe Vienna I went out and bought every last can I could find!

Rachacha, me too!! Wasn’t that new recipe horrible? It reminded me of the “new Coke” fiasco. I’d give anything for a can of the original Cafe Vienna!

It appears that it is not just me or my area - I’ll start hitting up the various discount stores…

For some reason, we just like Wisk better. Perhaps it is the water here, perhaps it is my imagination, but Tide doesn’t seem to get the job done as well as Wisk.

Bad news CBBBlinker - All is also missing from the local shelves…

Personally, I buy the detergent that is “free and clear” of dyes and perfumes. It has no color, so it can not stain your clothes. It is true that it does not have that fresh laundry smell, but we have sensitive skin issues. After that I find no difference. I like liquid not powder.

Well. I’m knocking on wood here – so far no problems finding All in the stores. Is all (!) the All missing, or only certain versions? I use the 3x concentrated stuff.

H uses sterile saline spray with his contacts. About 2 years ago we stopped finding it in the stores, but he found it online and bought it by the case.
