When applying to colleges, I want to know how I can explain to them that I attended a charter school for my sophomore year. This is important for two reasons. First, the charter school I attended does not hand out letter grades but is mastery based. Unfortunately for me, the experience I had at this charter school made me desperate to go back to normal public school in my junior and senior year and I am hesitant to mention this experience because it was a very bad one. This is because in signing up for the charter school, I expected it to provide a rigorous mastery-based curriculum and provide for my natural inclination for self-learning. It turned out to just be a magnet for lazy, delinquent students.

Will attending a charter school raise or lower my admission chances? Will my admissions be considered differently? Should I just send in my transcripts and wait for them to contact me for questions? Should I call each school and ask them how I should approach this matter?

The colleges I am applying to all use the UW System App ad the Common App.
