Tsunami:
Having been born and raised in Northern California all my life, I’m pretty sure I’m more knowledgable about the geographical location of Stanford - it’s in NorCal.
That being said, it would be ridiculous to address you by name, seeing that your screenname’s namesake is a ‘tidal wave,’ which usually brings destruction and havoc to coastal regions. I’m sure you will counter this, by saying my screenname “Cash’d” is ridiculous; however, it is inspired by the singer Johnny Cash, who I listen to frequently. Your screenname is a literally a natural disaster - get some originality. The fact is that you have been a negative force in this thread by discouraging students to apply to Stanford and downplaying Stanford’s prestige and inherent academic excellence.
Now, it’s fair to let you criticize Stanford as much as you want. But, you haven’t considered other factors. There are a number of universities, such as MIT, which are better than the Ivies but aren’t part of the Ivy League. Just because a university is not part of the Ivy League doesn’t make it automatically a ‘bad university.’ Empirically, Stanford is equivalent or perhaps better than the Ivies…
Stanford’s current community of scholars includes:
17 Nobel laureates
4 Pulitzer Prize winners
23 MacArthur Fellows
21 recipients of the National Medal of Science
4 National Medal of Technology recipients
224 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
133 members of the National Academy of Sciences
82 National Academy of Engineering members
25 members of the National Academy of Education
43 American Philosophical Society members
6 Wolf Foundation Prize winners
6 winners of the Koret Foundation Prize
3 Presidential Medal of Freedom winners

US News 2005 Rankings place Stanford ahead of 1) Columbia, 2) Dartmouth, 3) Brown, and 4) Cornell.
Tsunami, as ignorant as you may be, you should see that there’s competition in the world. And if you’re unwilling to accept the fact the Ivies won’t always be the best in the world, you’ve got some problems. Using your own argument that “reputations can’t really brought down easily nowadays” seems to be correct. Considering some of the Ivies aren’t as good as Stanford, it appears that their reputations still stand as #1 in your opinion! Even though there may be other good universities, their reputation is hard to bring down. Good job on answering your own argument, Tsunami!
Now, it’s 12:40 AM, and if I had the time, I’d continue, but seeing that arguing with a person like you has justed wasted the past 2 minutes of my time, I’ll bring it to an end.
