Where is Sasha Obama going to college?

@Riversider - We could afford to send our daughter (only child) to wherever she wanted, with no thought to cost. She’s at an OOS flagship because that was the best fit for her and her major. Expensive privates do not necessarily equate to a better education.

Good for you but between top 25 colleges, it’s really unlikely they won’t be able to find a good fit and a suitable major for an undergrad student, unless she prefers Oxford or Cambridge.

She is taking a gap year then going to University of Michigan.

Terrible choice.

Too cold. The financial aid is lacking and you have to take a bus to the engineering campus.

Good move. Why become target of bad publicity involved with recent celebrity admission scandals. University of Michigan is as good as it comes in public sector and as expensive for no aid OSS. If she is taking a gap year, she has time to reapply if she changes her mind. Going to same school as her friends is somewhat pointless in this situation.

I went to Michigan. Seems like a fine choice if she likes a large school, great sports, and lots of strong academic programs. Ann Arbor is a terrific college town, too. Good for her.

But I do wonder what your source is. I don’t see any news reports when I search. I know there were rumors, of course.

Seems like she’s not following her sisters path, which is great. I always wondered why Malia choose H since it’s not known for its film program. Not sure if that’s still her interest, but it was at the time.

@intparent I looked, there is no news or announcement. It’s likely just a rumor/assumption as there was an Instagram (allegedly her account) post back in December with a U Michigan bus, gap year is probably another assumption as her sister took one.

Malia had a really good reason for the gap year. It was the last year her father was in office so she could travel with her family, enjoy all the ‘last time’ things. She also has a July birthday so was very young for her class.

Sasha has a June birthday so is also on the younger side.

I know someone who knows someone – and they say she’s going to Yale. We shall see…

I don’t know about a gap year.

@intparent it was in an article yesterday about both sisters going shopping and their credit cards being denied since their mother puts very strict limits on the credit cards. Then it went into what each girl is doing. Since this thread was not moving, I remembered this thread and put my comments. We shall see.

@sushiritto… ?

Look at the last paragraph https://mtonews.com/sasha-and-malia-obama-have-credit-card-declined

Same tabloid posted about Yale being her first choice and an SCEA acceptance but no official announcement so far. It’s wise of them to keep it private as it’s not the right climate to get mentioned in any college admissions related news even though everyone knows they don’t need to bribe anyone for acceptance to any college any where. Being president’s daughter is an exclusive extracurricular.

My bet is an Ivy…her parents and her sister attend/attended ivies.

Just happened to read it when looking through Google. I know it’s not an official source just found it interesting.

It sure is an interesting topic if you find human sociology and psychology fascinating in general and more so if you have interest in higher education.

Walked the talk? What are you talking about? Both of them graduated from elite private schools.

They promote community colleges and state schools so it would make sense to actually try one for their own family. With their connections, it doesn’t even matter where their kids go to college.

It might matter to their kids.

@austinmshauri You have a point. In the end she is the one who’ll have to spend 4-5 years there. Every graduate deserve that decision power.
