Where is Stephen Colbert?

The show has been off for a day or two with prominent “no comment” from any one who should know anything.

Emergency? The news I read made it sound very mysterious.

I thought that it was reported that his elderly mother was very ill in South Carolina…

Yup. Shut down for the week.

[Stephen Colbert halts show for mother, a report says - Celebrity Circuit - CBS News](http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-57380058-10391698/stephen-colbert-halts-show-for-mother-a-report-says/)

I heard family emergency but didn’t know what it is.

I have the same internet sources as everyone else, and the same tools (Google search engine primarily) I felt the story that his mother was very ill seemed plausible so I stopped searching for additional information. Just sent him my best wishes… on facebook of course.

His mother is 91 and her health is the issue. I say we should let Colbert take time with it. I miss seeing new material but Jon Stewart keeps rolling on and hasn’t commented on it.

Steve Colbert is one of 11 children, his father and 2 of his brothers were killed in a plane crash when he was pretty young. The remaining family is extremely close, if his mother is ill I imagine he’d want to be by her side. I have met him, very briefly and he seemed like a nice man.

The mother, Lorna Colbert, was interviewed along with other mothers of celebrities from South Carolina on some TV show I saw (the mother of Kristen Davis from Sex and the City was also on the program; I don’t recall the third celebrity-mother). She came across as a really intelligent, clever, with-it little spitfire – who buried her husband and 2 teenage sons who were killed in a plane crash. The family is very philanthropically oriented esp at the Medical University of South Carolina where the father worked. Colbert seems like enough of a mensch that he would stop the show to be with an ailing mother-- good for him.

The Colbert children were taught to think for themselves.

Good for Colbert. He has the ability to put his family over career and he took it, even if it was probably problematic on many levels. It warms my heart when people but family first.

Best wishes to the mother and the whole family.

Just noticed that he’ll be back tonight with all new shows this week!

His only comment so far has been (via Twitter): “My family and I would like to thank everyone who has offered their thoughts and prayers. We are grateful and touched by your concern.”
