Hello!
So I have a dilemma. I just got my most recent ACT back and it was a 29. Although I know this is a decent score I was hoping for at least 30. I am planning on taking it again this June and the SAT, which is pretty much the last time I can because I am a junior. So my question is: what is the best school I can get into? I want a really good pre med program and location does not matter to me. My other qualifications include:
5 AP classes completed (Lang, World History, Calc, Biology, Psych)
Enrolled in AP 6 classes next year (Spanish, BC Calc, Physics, Lit, Macro or Micro Econ, US History)
I am currently the valedictorian of my class with a perfect 4.0
Lots of extra curriculars like NHS (running for pres next year), Student Government, 4H (currently the secretary of that and running for vice pres next year), musical theater, forensics, Class treasurer since freshman year, and much more.
I also have letters in cross country, track, choir and academics.
I know I am forgetting stuff but there is more.
Colleges I have looked at are places like University of Chicago, Northwestern, Boston University, University of Wisconsin- Madison, College of William and Mary, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Any direction would be great, thanks in advance!
You can definitely get into most of those colleges, especially UNC chapel hill, BU, and U of W… good luck though!! Chance me back?
Gonna disagree with the above poster on UNC unless you’re in state OOS is so competitive and a 30 likely won’t cut it. I’d say you can definitely get into BU that appears to be a solid match. Northwestern and UChicago are probably out of the question unless you can get your ACT up to at the minimum a 33. I’d just say study hard for the ACT if you can get a 33+ with a 4.0 GPA you could be competitive at most colleges. Good luck!
Get a 32+ on the ACT (preferably 33-34) and you can get into a lot more schools. Try Public Ivies (if you can afford them). If you get your ACT to a 34, then you have a lot of schools open to you
I would take some practice tests and get your ACT to 30. After that, all schools are within reach.
Hi! I’d like to start out by saying that I created an account on here just so I could respond to your post.
I was accepted EA to UChicago and I will be going there this fall. I had a 29 on my ACT (both times that I took it), but Chicago superstores, so I had a 31. I will have done 11 AP classes at the end of this year, and have a 3.95 GPA unewighted.
Chicago, while an incredibly academic school, does not just care about your scores. They take the holistic view of their applicants, and from what you have shown, you have some excellent things to offer. If you can write extremely well and have a quirky personality, then Chicago isn’t an impossible reach. You can find samples of their essay questions required on the application, and they are quirky fun.
I highly suggest going to the SAT/ACT prep forums here. I went from a 176/240 PSAT to a 2100/2400 SAT, and my improvement can basically be attributed to this website alone. Also, keep in mind that you can still take the SAT/ACT in August, September, October, November, and even December/January of your senior year (but you should take them by November if you’re applying early action).
