<p>The U.S. Department of Labor conducted a survey of employers in May of 2003. (The survey excluded law professors, judges, the self-employed, those who don’t practice law as their primary job, and those primarily involved in corporate or firm management.)</p>

<p>Here are some of the results:</p>

<p>14% of the US attorneys practice in New York State.
14% practice in California.
7% practice in Texas.
6% practice in Florida.
5% practice in Illinois.
5% practice in Washington, D.C.</p>

<p>4% practice in Pennsylvania.
4% practice in Massachusetts.
4% practice in New Jersey.
3% practice in Ohio.
3% practice in Virginia.
3% practice in Michigan.</p>

<p>30% practice in one of the 39 remaining states.</p>
