Would it go under extra curriculars? Volunteer work? I believe that being a very active animal rights activist would help me stand out, and I want the title of “activist” to stand out on my resume as well.
What activities have you done to illustrate this activism? They would be listed under “Activities” or “Awards.”
@bjkmom I have made a website and many social media pages to spread awareness about the issue and have volunteered and raised money for it as well.
OK, now you’re on the right track. Think about things you can do that involve real time and activity-- working with an animal shelter, running and adopt-a-thon, whatever.
To be considered an “activitist”, you’ve got to illustrate real activity. You’ve made a good start.
Agree with @bjkmom - if you have volunteered, or accomplished something, or organized something, list it under activities and awards.
Agree with above comments. You are an ‘activist’ based on what you DO/have done; not by giving yourself the label.
I would be specific regarding what issues are important to you and why, and how you have gotten involved, tried to make a difference, contributed to outreach/education about those issues, etc.
Agree with other posters about how to reflect your activism. But I think the bigger question is, are you sure you want to do that. As with any activity you might list, some employers might find it attractive, some won’t consider it a positive or a negative, and some might find it off-putting. There was just a thread in which a business owner posted that he might not invite someone for an interview if their resume reflected political activism. I am certainly not trying to express a negative view toward activism in general or animal rights activism specifically, just want to make sure you’ve given that some thought. Maybe you’re not looking to be hired by, say, a department store that sells furs, just food for thought. Good luck!
