Where should Alex (middle child on Modern Family) go to college?

If the character of Alex (the more academic, middle daughter on Modern Family) were seeking advice on which colleges to apply to, what schools would you recommend? Not based on major, but on personality and ‘fit’…and why?

She reminds my of my D in many ways…seemed like a fun way to get advice steering her to look at schools that might fit her personality.

university of chicago

lol, that girl is adorable

Rice, Brown, William & Mary, Pomona, Amherst. Smart, quirky, confidently different.

Dartmouth. That girl needs to let loose a little and have fun.

MIT  Her egg-drop parachute device comes to mind.

TV shows aren’t usually very creative with their college decisions. She’d go to Harvard, Stanford, or Berkeley (to save her parents $$$) or, on the off-chance the show is still on when she goes to college, UCLA.

Caltech.
Crossover with Big Bang Theory.
Sheldon’s, Bernadette’s or Amy’s grad student.

Any school with lots of girls in techy fields - MIT, Caltech, Stanford, etc. I think of the egg-drop, the shirt of Albert Einstein (“the guy from Back to the Future”), studying really hard to beat the Indian kid, etc. Alex is my favorite :)

Fun fact: in real life, both the girls who play Alex and Haley said that the kid who plays Luke is way smarter than them. Thought that was funny.

and what colleges would you recommend to her if she likely couldn’t afford the big name private schools?

Most, if not all, of the schools named cover the full need of admitted students. If family finances make her ineligible for need-based aid, then she should look at the schools that offer merit aid (there’s a huge range here - both public and private) . . . as well as her state schools.

Where does your fictional Alex live? And how much can her family actually afford to pay?

@dodgersmom, My fictional Alex lives in Florida. According to my calculations, our EOC would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20K a yr. So, while we think we could possibly swing that, we are just not so sure it would be wise to. Finding a school that wouldn’t be so expensive would be nice! ;-)
