Where should I apply as Back-up school?

This Fall, I’ll be applying to quite a few schools (all in Cali, since I’m a Cali resident) as either Business/Economics major:

1.) UC Berkeley (Econ) - Applying as a Reach
2.) UCLA (Business Econ) - Applying as a Match
3.) USC (Business Admin.) - Applying as a Match

I can’t be sure that I’ll be admitted to any of one this school. In worse case scenario, all three schools may reject me.

I was considering UC San Diego (Economics) as my back-up school, but I really wouldn’t want to go there, so I figured there was no point of applying to UCSD if I’m not thinking of going there anyway.

My Brief Stats:

GPA: 3.71 (3.83 by the end of the Fall semester) - Honors Program
EC: Student Govt, Private Tutor, Inventory Manager, Volunteer at Hospital, Intern at CPA office, Leadership Program

High School GPA: 3.3 UW, 3.61 Weighted
SAT: 1300

I got all the required major courses done for all three of the schools I’m applying for sure.

Can any of you think of a school in California (So Cal would be preferred) with a decent Undergrad business/economics program that I may consider applying as a back-up school?

*Can be either Public or Private.

thnx

anyone?
If you can’t think of any, at least say “I dont know”…
having no replies makes me feel like a social reject :(

Actually I am in the same boat as you. I would like to know as well. (Also I did not want you to feel like a reject. :stuck_out_tongue: ). Then again I may just wait another year if I don’t get in this year.

Well it takes a while for people to answer. People normally don’t answer in like 5 minutes.
But anyway how about ucr and ucsb. I know that ucr has a business program and ucsb has an accounting major. But i don’t know if it fits your definition of “decent.”

u shud apply to ucsd, just be prepared for the worst.

and all i can say is that u shud apply to more schools that you really want to go to.

and…
here are some considerations
uw madison
osu
gtown
and ya…

decent as in nationally recognized… like when ppl hear about the program, they would go “oh~ that school’s got a really good Business (or Economics) Program!”

NOT A “oh? that school had a Business program?”

well you might as well add UCSD as a backup since its only 60 dollars for an extra assurance. You never know, hell might freeze over and you might get rejected by all your top choices so it’ll never hurt. Other than those schools, there really aren’t too many great safeties in california. You can apply to claremont mckenna but that will be a reach because its a really good/competitive school. Pepperdine would be a safety, but its ranked below SD.

I see what you mean. Like Wharton would be decent for you ;)

I’m not a business major so I don’t whether those schools i suggested to you are nationally recognize. I do have a friend whose brother graduated from ucsb and went on to work for a top 5 company in the nation as an accountant. I have heard that ucsb business program is quite decent.
How about Pepperdine Univerisity? Thats in southern california and it has a business program:)

Isn’t Pepperdine relegious?

I think its Christian. But it has a really nice campus, and its by the beach :)

Yeah I have some friends that go there. They ask for a reference from a relegious leader…may be a problem for someone who is not relegious. I think it is a good school though. I wouldn’t mind going there (except of course I am not christian :stuck_out_tongue: )

I dunno about this though but:

Is Cal Poly Pomona famous for its Business Program?

NO, don’t even think about applying there… trust me, i went to a highschool that was about 20 minutes away from Cal poly pomona and all the kids that couldn’t get into UC’s went there.

ucsd math/econ tag

The Pepperdine campus is GORGEOUS. I visited there a few years back, it’s on a hill that overlooks the gorgeous Malibu beach. And it’s about walking distance to the beach as well. Luch green grass across the hill too and the church overlooks the beach.
I’d love to go there, but I am not Christian and I’m not rich. I heard that Pepperdine is about the most expensive school in the US. Or maybe one of them, it’s about 40K a year or more to go there.

By the way good luck DHL3 with your applications, eventhough I don’t know too much about schools for Business or Econ, but looks like we’re going in the same boat to the road for applying to the UC’s Fall 2006.
Since you said you like So Cal, what is your first choice out of those schools you listed there?
