Hello! I am currently beginning my third year at a community college in California, and am about to begin applying to universities as a transfer student for Fall '11. I know I want to apply to Brown University and UC Berkeley, but I don’t really know where else I should apply! Geography is not really a concern, and in fact I think it would be neat to move to a big city on the east coast. Looking at my grades and other such things does anyone have any suggestions for me? I got into NYU for Fall '10, but ended up not going because of how expensive it is. Thanks for any help you give me!

Junior college GPA = 4.0. Straight A’s for four semesters (50 units). I think I can maintain this until I transfer, so then I will have 70 units worth of A’s.

- I volunteer as a TA for a History professor I took classes from for three semesters. This includes grading tests, quizzes, homeworks, helping with day to day activities, and giving three guest lectures per semester.
- I have played music for seven years, and have toured and put out albums with two bands. I also teach music, and run my own recording studio.
- I make films, and won the 2008 Parting Shots Film Festival in the best art film category.
- I have volunteered at the local animal shelter for two years. I also donate my hair every time it gets long enough to Locks of Love.
- I noted that I am in two intramural sports leagues, as well as a hiking club. I also mentioned my love for biking. I am also in the Astronomy Club at my school.
- I described how I’m putting together a detailed family history (I am a History major). I am compiling all the information into a book.

-Letter of Recommendation: The professor who is writing my letter of recommendation is someone whose classes I took for three semesters, and now I TA for him. I go over to his house for dinner occasionally, and I would say we are friends. I have given guest lectures in his classes, and help him with a lot of work. He went to Princeton.

Work: I have worked at the Santa Rosa Junior College Bookstore for the last two years. I deliver food for a company currently as well. I worked for an internet search company for a year from June 08 to July 09. I worked my senior year in high school at a movie theater for seven months.

I feel that my essays and short answers are at least good. In my common app essay I explain that I did not enjoy high school, but how as soon as I enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College I began to love academics, and that now History/Religious Studies is my passion.

In high school I had a 3.2 GPA, two D’s, and virtually nothing going for me. I’m hoping that since my essay is about how I made a transformation when I entered college that this will make sense and not hurt my chances terribly.

Additionally I never took the SATs because I was a dead end high school kid, but am going to take them in October. I am aiming for at LEAST a 2000 my first time.

I did not take calculus in College. I mostly took history, soft science, and social sciences, and will have two semesters of German done by the time I leave.

Thanks so much!
