Prospective Major?
What area of the country?
Rural, urban, or college town?
Research University, LAC, or both?
Big athletic teams, lot of school spirit or a low-key campus?
Parties? Mostly studying?

use princetonreview.com counselor o’matic
don’t take what it says too seriously, but it’s good at giving some suggestions

Science-Related
Preferably Close to the Border
Don’t care about type of locale, spirit, etc.
There to study

Thanks for clarifying.

The counselor o’matic gave me:

Cornell
NYU
Syracuse
American University
Boston College
etc.

among others, but as you said, I can’t really take it seriously…

very early bump…

I’m desperate!

Well if you’re “there to study” then you want a very academics oriented school. I’d suggest Cooper Union, Webb Institute, or Harvey Mudd (but only if you can handle a really small school)

Let’s see here. OK, University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin are great schools close to the border. Both have very strong science departements, and have great overall academic reputations. I think UW would be a sure shot for you, and it’s ranked #32 in US news and wr. Michigan would be a slight reach. Both of these schools are very large, but have plenty of people there just to study, and you would do just fine.

Also, I think Cornell would be really great, but it’s a reach, so…

To throw in some more schools, look into University of Rochester, Syracuse University, Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western, Georgia Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Washington, Miami of Ohio, Perdue University, and Boston University.

Thanks very much.

What hurts me? SAT IIs?

For most of those schools, SAT II’s aren’t necessary. But CMU and Cornell will want to see them.

I heard that at most, they are atleast recommended. Which are the best schools that I should atleast apply to and won’t count the SAT IIs?

Well, this is better to ask on an individual school thread, or just contact the specific school with questions.

Will do.

Going down that list (USNews): At what points do I have a chance at acceptance, good matches and sure things?

I’m quite ignorant to general admission requirements (expetations, rather), and very much appreciate all this help.

Hoo_29 and others, I really am grateful for this…

BTW, Did anyone actually buy that list? I didn’t see the price, but is it worth anything at all?

bump before bed :)

bump again in the morning
