Where should I be looking at for transferring?

I posted in the fall asking for assistance with idea of transferring from a community college to four year university and I thought I’d ask again with updated grades.

Some important prior information: I spent my freshman year/first semester of sophomore year at a private four year university. My father and brother passed away last fall and I moved back to California after fall semester. I just finished this semester and now have a cumulative 3.55 GPA with a 4.0 for the fall semester and 3.8 this semester. Here is my entire schedule up to this point:

First Semester:
Chinese I – W
World Politics – A
Apple in the Global Economy – B+
College Writing – B
Programming for Non-Programmers – P
Microsoft Certification – P

(I took the last two to maintain full time student status after dropping Chinese, they are one credit courses. So in reality, of actual courses, you could say my credit load this semester was 9.

Second Semester:
Renaissance History – B
Intro to Health Promotion – B+
Intro to Public Health – B+
College Writing – B
Finite Mathematics – C

Third Semester:
Biology I – A
Pre-Calc – A
Human Origins – A
Global Health – A
Emergency Medicine Technician – A (I listed this as a W on my last post but I ended up being allowed to make up work for this course and they allowed me to reenroll after discussions with my counselor and I finished it.)

Fourth Semester:
Macroeconomics - B
History of England - A
History of Modern Art - A
Intro to Sociology - A
Intro to Criminology - A
Calculus I - W

I was a pre-med student but dropped that in the spring. I dropped calculus because it conflicted with my mandatory work schedule (my work schedule was changed after the semester started). But the reality of the situation is that I was not doing well in the class anyway and decided that as a polsci major, the math thing was done for me. I probably shouldn’t have withdrew but I was likely to get a bad grade anyway and with all the work thing happening, it felt like the best thing to do… in the moment. I do regret it now. But nothing I can do about it.

Anyways, so now, I am looking at possible places to transfer. I’m doing a few courses in the fall that will raise that GPA higher but right now I am now looking at possible places to transfer for the spring semester.

Does anyone have ideas and do any of you think I have a possible chance at NYU or Cornell with my GPA or probably not? I’d love some ideas on possible choices.

Also I am registered Native American and my essays will include details of my culture and upbringing if you think that matters.

PS: I am looking for schools that accept spring transfers for political science majors. I qualify for TAG and intend on applying to UCSB using that along with the other UCs but I would like to get back into the college swing sooner rather than later. I have spent this semester healing emotionally and definitely will continue over the summer and fall but I rather not wait until the fall of next year.
