Where should I be shooting?

<p>I’m currently thinking Vanderbilt, but I am taking a gap year so I may change my mind and also I just got my new SAT scores. Where do you think I should be applying? I probably want to major in sciences but do not want MIT/Caltech style social life.</p>

<p>I am taking a gap year and applying next year so take into account that I will have a full year of good grades (or at least pretty good) to raise my GPA and rank.</p>

<p>Stats:
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Hispanic
School: Private prep school (not nationally ranked or any of that jazz)
Rank: school does not rank, probably top 10% maybe top 20%. It will be affected by my grades from this year.</p>

<p>Grades & classes:</p>

<p>9th grade: all A’s, honors classes (hardest available in all subject areas)
10th grade: all A’s except 1 B, again honors classes and AP Spanish. (hardest available in all subject areas)
11th grade: 3 A 2 B 1 C (in AP Chem). Courses: English(no ap offered), Physics, AP Chem, AP US Hist., digital film, precalculus.
12th grade: AP Physics, AP English, AP US Government, AP Calculus AB, 2 music classes.</p>

<p>Also took online course in geometry and a summer class in Economics at UVa</p>

<p>GPA not including senior year grades which will be all A’s or maybe one B+: 3.88 weighted, 3.71 unweighted.</p>

<p>Testing:</p>

<p>SAT I: superscore 2400
SAT 2: Bio: 680 (taken freshman year) Spanish: 780 Chemistry: 760<br>
US History: 740 Math I: 720
AP Tests: AP Spanish (5), AP US History (5), AP Chemistry (5)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
Varsity and other soccer: 9-12
Cross country: 12
Paid work as web designer, photographer, copy writer: 10-12
Music production: 9-12
Piano
Academic and cultural camps in Spain during the summers (my dad was from there)
Jiu Jiutsu: 12, and would continue into gap year
other assorted clubs and such</p>

<p>During gap year will do something interesting, not sure what but assume it’s decent but not crazy amazing.</p>

<p>lol spazman. Atacom, I visited DUke and thought it was not for me. If anybody wants to just chance me for Ivies that works too. Whether I do ED at Vandy kind of depends where else I have a chance. Also, I will be ramping up my extracurriculars in the next year or so and will hopefully have some very strong stuff.</p>

<p>UNC, UVA, BC, USC, and Michigan, just to throw some suggestions at you.
I figure at least one of those would knock heroin off the list</p>

<p>amt - I would go ahead and apply to Duke anyhow. Then if you get in, visit again and make a final decision.</p>
