Where should I go as an athlete?

I’m an athlete with a chance to go to either Cornell or Upenn.
I want to be a business/economics major and clearly Upenn is the stronger of the two.
However, I’m no super genius and I’m wondering should I go to Cornell instead because I will get better grades than at Upenn.

I know Cornell has a very strong economics department as well, I just hear that UPenn is much more difficult.

I’m not familiar with athletic recruiting, but there’s a saying that if you get in, you can do the work.

If it helps, Penn just got a new athletics facility called the Weiss Pavilion that’s said to be a major upgrade over what they used to have. Penn’s a great school (Especially in business). IMO, this shouldn’t be an issue. :)

There is no basis for thinking that you will get better grades at one school or the other. None. Zero. In all likelihood, you would get exactly the same grades, on average. So pick the one you like best, including the coaches and team.

I agree with JHS: Cornell is going to be no less difficult than Penn. The caliber of student is about the same so pick what would make you happy. Be aware though that if you have graduate school aspirations and you know you’ll struggle in Cornell/Penn, might want to consider a lesser school for GPA boost.

thanks all good advice… i’m just worried cuz i heard it hard to manage some classes at upenn with a sport.

What is your sport? That’s important too!

It matters what sport it is, and what you mean by “I have a chance to go to either Cornell or UPenn”.

Have the coaches told you definitively that you are a top recruit and they will put you at the top of the list? Has the Penn coach told you he will ask for a Wharton slot for you? Some coaches only get a couple of Wharton slots for their recruits and your odds would be better as an econ major for CAS. Cornell is pretty intense about some of their sports, too, so I don’t know why you think Penn would be harder for you. I am the parent of a student who was also recruited by both schools, by the way, although he never actually got to do his sport. (Penn’ 10)

i am a top recruit for both… but i never spoke to the coach about getting into wharton. i’m meeting with him this week, so i will see what he has to say.
