Hey Guys,
I am currently a sophomore at a top 25 ranked liberal arts college, but I am extremely unhappy.
I have a 3.5GPA while pursuing a dual major, I have been elected to student government both years here, and I have a leadership position in my schools Student Government Association as a sophomore, which is very rare. I also have been a tutor at a local middle school all three semesters here.
My plan is to take next semester off and work back home while working on transfer applications. How will that effect my ability to transfer for next fall? Also, which sort of schools should I be looking at?
I don’t think you will necessarily be any happier anywhere else. Try to resolve your emotional discontent where you are and persist to get your degree.
Try studying abroad instead of taking time off to get a change of scenery while still advancing toward your degree. See if your college offers one of those programs where you can study at another university for a year in the US or Canada while still being enrolled at your current college. Find out if there is a co-op program available where you could spend time elsewhere every other term. Or see what you can do to complete your degree early. Stop pursuing a dual major and go ahead and get one degree, for example, and be on your way.
Happiness is not guaranteed at the next university, or the next, or the next. Consider all options for how to persist where you are and get your degree. Transferring can create a world of new challenges that won’t help your happiness levels at all.
