Where to buy I.T stuff

if a student wishs to buy a LCD screen or laptop etc, can he/she get it easily around compus of UC ? or E-purchasing via Internet is the only way?

gear? You may or may not get the best price through the university. You need to comparison shop. But as a prospective UofC student, I’m sure you can find the info on Chicago’s website. (hint: NIST).

But two big pieces of advice:

NIST can do factory service for Dell. What this has meant is that my D has been able to have her computer, not purchased through the U, get factory service in 2-3 days when she broke her screen and when the mobo crapped out. Much better than sending it back to dell, and much cheaper than on-site service.

Dell’s complete care, and competitors versions, are IMHO must purchases for students. Why? Stuff happens, and screens get broken.

Software is much cheaper through NIST. How about a full version of MS Office for $25, including media? Antivirus is free from NIST, and so forth.

So for hardware, comparison shop, but U deals are pretty good.

That’s all good advice-- the acronym for Chicago’s tech support is NSIT though.

hey, I was close! :-)
